Job summary

AtkinsRéalis is seeking a GIS data specialist to convert and validate CAD data for GIS environments in Canada. You will georeference, align, and integrate data into geodatabases, ensuring traceability and quality. Collaboration with engineering and design teams across multiple disciplines is key.

The role requires proficiency in ArcGIS Pro and CAD tools, with a focus on data integrity, metadata, and project support in a hybrid work setting.

Qualifications

• College diploma in geomatics, cartography, GIS or equivalent.
• Minimum of three years of CAD-to-GIS conversion, georeferencing, coordinate systems, geodatabase editing, and preparation of design data.
• Experience in infrastructure, transportation, or multidisciplinary engineering projects is a significant asset.
• Knowledge of AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroStation, or other CAD tools; knowledge of ArcGIS Online/Enterprise; proficiency with Excel and Word.
• Knowledge of FME, Python, or tools for automating conversions and quality control is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, convert, clean, georeference, and maintain GIS data from engineering and design teams.
• Convert CAD data into GIS formats while preserving geometry, attributes, units, coordinate systems, and source traceability.
• Verify spatial positioning, georeferencing, projection, and alignment with project reference data.
• Structure and integrate converted data into geodatabases following models, naming conventions, and standards.
• Perform quality control on geometry, attributes, topology, duplicates, completeness, and consistency of data.
• Identify, document, and correct discrepancies between design data and GIS data; flag issues needing technical decisions.
• Update metadata, conversion logs, and documentation to ensure traceability of data and transformations.
• Produce maps and standardized datasets to support design coordination and project needs.
• Collaborate with GIS, CAD, BIM, engineering, and design teams to clarify requirements and meet schedules.

Overview

As part of the national Geographic Information Systems team, you will contribute to integrating ALTO project design data into GIS environments. Working with the engineering, design, and GIS teams, you will prepare, convert, clean, georeference, validate, and maintain data, particularly from CAD environments, so it can be reliably used in geodatabases, analyses, and project deliverables.

Your role

• Prepare, convert, clean, georeference, validate, and maintain GIS data received from engineering and design teams.
• Convert CAD data into GIS formats while preserving geometry, attributes, units, coordinate systems, and source traceability.
• Verify the spatial positioning, georeferencing, projection, and alignment of design data with project reference data.
• Structure and integrate converted data into geodatabases in accordance with established models, naming conventions, and standards.
• Perform quality control checks on geometry, attributes, topology, duplicates, completeness, and consistency of integrated data.
• Identify, document, and correct discrepancies between design data and GIS data, and flag issues requiring a technical decision.
• Update metadata, conversion logs, and documentation to ensure traceability of data and transformations.
• Produce maps, reference layers, and standardized datasets to support design coordination and project team requirements.
• Collaborate with GIS, CAD, BIM, engineering, and design teams to clarify requirements, resolve integration issues, and meet project schedules.
• Proficiency in French or English; French–English bilingualism is a significant asset due to collaboration with teams in Quebec and elsewhere in Canada.

This position requires knowledge of a language other than French, namely English, as it involves collaboration with members of the Canadian or global leadership team located outside Québec.

About you

• College diploma in geomatics, cartography, GIS, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• A minimum of three years of relevant experience is required in CAD-to-GIS conversion, georeferencing, coordinate systems, geodatabase editing, and preparation of design data.
• Experience in infrastructure, transportation, or multidisciplinary engineering projects is considered a significant asset.
• Knowledge of AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroStation, or other computer-aided design tools is considered an asset.
• Knowledge of ArcGIS Online or ArcGIS Enterprise and proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.
• Knowledge of FME, Python, or tools for automating conversions and quality control is considered an asset.
• Good understanding of CAD data formats and structures, coordinate systems, units, topology rules, and CAD-to-GIS integration principles.
• Ability to perform quality control on converted data and clearly document sources, transformations, anomalies, and corrections.
• Ability to methodically identify, document, and resolve discrepancies in geometry, projection, units, or attributes.
• Ability to clearly communicate integration issues, assumptions, and validation results, and to seek clarification when required.
• Strong ability to collaborate with GIS, CAD, BIM, engineering, and design teams.
• Strong proficiency in ArcGIS Pro, particularly editing, georeferencing, projection, geoprocessing, and geodatabase management functions.
• Rigour and attention to detail when converting, integrating, and validating design data.
• Self-motivation, organizational skills, and adherence to standards, priorities, and schedules.
• Proficiency in French or English; French - English bilingualism is a significant asset due to collaboration with teams in Quebec and elsewhere in Canada.

Additional information

Expected compensation for this role is (between Pay Range $55 000 - $78 0000 annually). Base salaries are determined according to several parameters like skills, experience, and potential impact on the role. Internal and external competitiveness are also taken into account in our offers.
