Job summary

The City of Edmonton seeks a collaborative GIS Coordinator to lead PARS' centralized GIS team. You will guide analysts and technicians, shape mapping solutions, and advance data governance for city assets and greenspace.

You will mentor staff, manage complex datasets, align work plans with budgets, and deliver data-driven insights that support essential city services.

Qualifications

  • University degree in GIS or related field with 4+ years of senior GIS experience and supervisory experience.
  • Alternate combos: diploma with 5+ years in senior GIS roles with supervision; or certificate with 7+ years in senior roles.
  • Experience managing municipal infrastructure data is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and supervise GIS Analysts and Technicians, including project planning and execution, data management, setting standards, and ensuring that all projects are completed on time and meet expectations
  • Develop and maintain annual and 4-year branch-wide GIS work plans in alignment with organizational priorities and budget cycles
  • Set project timelines, monitor progress, and implement quality control procedures to ensure that all deliverables meet the required standards
  • Oversee geospatial data governance, ensuring the integrity, accuracy, and security of PARS spatial data and asset layers
  • Act as the primary liaison to corporate business partners (such as the CBI GIS team) to ensure branch alignment with enterprise standards
  • Lead the creation of custom workflows, mapping applications, spatial data visualizations, and reporting tools to support operational needs
  • Provide subject matter expertise and technical support for design reviews, public notifications, and council inquiries regarding city-owned assets

Are you a skilled geospatial professional and leader ready to shape how a major city manages its physical assets and green spaces? The City of Edmonton is looking for a collaborative, technical, and forward-thinking GIS Coordinator to lead our newly centralized GIS team in Parks and Roads Services (PARS). In this role, you will lead a dedicated team while delivering innovative mapping, spatial data governance, and analytics solutions. You will work closely with community partners, internal collaborators, and technical experts to support vital city services. What will you do?

Qualifications:
  • University degree in GIS, Remote Sensing, Computer Science, Geomatics Engineering, or a related discipline, plus 4+ years of relevant senior-level GIS experience with at least 2 years in a supervisory role OR
  • Post-Secondary Diploma in GIS or a related discipline, plus 5+ years of relevant senior-level GIS experience with at least 2 years in a supervisory role OR
  • High School Diploma with a 1-year GIS certificate (or equivalent coursework), plus 7+ years of relevant senior-level GIS experience with at least 2 years in a supervisory role
Assets:
  • Experience managing municipal infrastructure, parks, or open-space spatial data
Skills required for success:
  • Strong knowledge of GIS software and spatial data analysis techniques, specifically in the Esri ArcGIS platform and Safe FME
  • Strong leadership, coaching, and project management skills to lead diverse technical teams
  • Knowledge of cartographic design principles and map production
  • Familiarity with programming languages, such as Python and SQL
  • Knowledge of spatial databases and data management techniques
  • Understanding of project management principles and practices
  • Familiarity with relevant laws and regulations related to geospatial data management and use
  • Knowledge of industry trends and best practices in geospatial technology
  • Knowledge about aerial photography and LiDAR data collection, data management, and data analysis
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to simplify complex spatial data for non-technical engagement participants and internal teams
  • High level of adaptability to manage competing demands in a fast-paced environment

Salary Range: $51.181 - $65.310 (Hourly); $106,865.930 - $136,367.280 (Annually)
