Job summary

West Vancouver is seeking a GIS Analyst for a 12‑month assignment to support corporate GIS and Asset Management. The role requires a university degree or college diploma in GIS/Geography or Computer Science and a minimum of two years of related experience, preferably in a municipal setting.

Responsibilities include managing GIS data, scripting with ArcPy, integrating with Asset Management, and providing training and guidance to internal teams. A BC Class 5 license and police check are required.

  • Strong knowledge of GIS software and data management.

  • Maintain and update GIS data using ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Enterprise.
  • Create and maintain database queries; script in ArcPy, Python, Arcade, SQL.
  • Prepare data translation routines to integrate data into the Asset Management System.
  • Assist with CMMS data integration and data quality control.
  • Train staff and provide guidance on GIS tools.
  • Interpret surveys and as-built drawings for GIS.
  • Serve as a resource to client departments for maps, apps, analyses.
  • Lead short and medium-term GIS projects.
  • Support development of mapping standards and projections.
  • Complete other related duties.

The District of West Vancouver Engineering Services Department is seeking a highly motivated GIS Analyst for approximately 12 months. Reporting to the GIS Administrator, the ideal candidate requires a high level of initiative and independent judgment to support corporate needs related to GIS and Asset Management.

This position will be responsible for:

  • Thorough knowledge of GIS desktop tools, including ESRI ArcGIS Pro and its extensions (e.g., Spatial or Network Analyst), ESRI ArcGIS Enterprise/Portal, ArcGIS Experience Builder
  • Creating and maintaining database queries, ability to script in ArcPy, Python, Arcade, SQL
  • Preparing data translation routines to integrate data into, as well as reporting information out of GIS and the Asset Management System;
  • Proficiency or experience with Maintenance Connection or similar CMMS and FME data integration software would be an asset;
  • Establishing procedures for the collection of data using a GPS unit and ArcGIS Field Maps, provide relevant training or guidance as needed;
  • Interpreting and uploading information from legal surveys, as-built drawings and digital data sets;
  • Implementing procedures for data integrity and quality control;
  • Acting as a resource to client departments in responding to a variety of requests for information, maps, services, mobile applications, analyses and reports;
  • Researching technologies and recommending upgrades related to the work;
  • Demonstrating applications and tools to users of the mapping system and web based applications;
  • Serving as a project lead on various short and medium-term projects as assigned, and;
  • Performing other related duties as required.

This position requires the completion of a university degree or college diploma in GIS/Geography or Computer Science, plus have a minimum of 2 years of directly related and relevant experience, preferably in a municipal environment.

The preferred candidate will demonstrate considerable technical and analytical skill and have knowledge of municipal mapping standards, projection systems, raster data modelling and digital photo manipulation. The candidate must be able to prioritize workloads, meet deadlines and maintain effective working relationships with a wide range of internal and external contacts.

A Class 5 Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia is required. The successful candidate will be required to supply an acceptable Police Information Check and a copy of their credentials.

35 hours per week (hours and days of work may vary)

Starting Rate of Pay:

$45.07 per hour plus 14% in lieu of benefits

This position has a pay structure with five steps which increase annually.
