Job summary

AtkinsRéalis in Canada seeks a GIS Specialist to contribute to environmental analyses and quality assurance of geospatial data for the ALTO project. You will collaborate with GIS, environmental, engineering and design teams to define analysis and QC methods and communicate findings to project teams.

The role requires a Bachelor's degree in geomatics or related discipline, 5+ years of experience, and strong ArcGIS Pro/ArcGIS Online skills.

• Bachelor's degree in geomatics, geography, environmental science, engineering, or a related discipline.
• Minimum of five years of relevant experience, including three years on environmental/infrastructure projects.
• Experience with ArcGIS Online/ArcGIS Enterprise and strong Excel/Word proficiency.
• Proven ability in advanced spatial analysis, modelling, geoprocessing, data interpretation and QA/QC.
• Knowledge of FME, Python, ModelBuilder or similar automation tools is an asset.

Overview

As part of the national Geomatics team, you will contribute to environmental analyses and the quality assurance of geospatial data for the ALTO project. Working with GIS, environmental, engineering, and design teams, you will define analysis and quality control methods, investigate significant data issues, interpret results, and communicate your findings to project teams.

Your role

• Define and document spatial analysis, validation, and quality control methods applicable to the project's environmental data.
• Perform advanced spatial analyses, geoprocessing, and modelling to support environmental studies and project decisions.
• Assess dataset completeness, accuracy, consistency, topology, attributes, coordinate systems, and compliance with established standards.
• Investigate significant data issues, determine root causes, recommend corrective actions, and follow up with the relevant stakeholders.
• Interpret analysis results and clearly explain findings, limitations, and recommendations to environmental, engineering, and project management teams.
• Design and produce thematic maps, indicators, and geospatial deliverables that meet the needs of environmental and multidisciplinary studies.
• Coordinate quality control activities with GIS technicians, review results, and provide technical guidance as needed.
• Ensure compliance with project governance standards, naming conventions, metadata requirements, and traceability procedures.
• Document methodologies, assumptions, controls, results, and decisions in a clear, structured, and verifiable manner.

About you

• Bachelor's degree in geomatics, geography, environmental science, engineering, or a related discipline.
• A minimum of five years of relevant experience is required, including at least three years supporting environmental, infrastructure, or multidisciplinary projects.
• Experience with ArcGIS Online or ArcGIS Enterprise, with strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.
• Demonstrated experience in advanced spatial analysis, modelling, geoprocessing, data interpretation, and quality assurance or quality control.
• Knowledge of FME, Python, ModelBuilder, or other automation tools is considered an asset.
• Good knowledge of key public data sources in Ontario and Quebec, including their structures, usage limitations, and methods for assessing their quality.
• Solid understanding of geospatial data quality principles, topology rules, coordinate systems, metadata, and traceability.
• Ability to define methodologies, analyze complex issues, formulate recommendations, and communicate results to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Ability to collaborate with GIS, environmental, engineering, and project management teams.
• Strong proficiency with ArcGIS Pro, including analysis, geoprocessing, modelling, cartography, and geodatabase management functions.
• Proficiency in French or English; French-English bilingualism is a significant asset due to collaboration with teams in Quebec and elsewhere in Canada.
• Excellent analytical, synthesis, and complex problem-solving skills.
• Rigour, professional judgment, and attention to detail when defining and applying quality control methods.
• Independence, organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a multidisciplinary project environment.
• Excellent communication skills to present results, explain quality issues, and formulate clear recommendations.

This position requires knowledge of a language other than French, namely English, as it involves collaboration with members of the Canadian or global leadership team located outside Québec.
