Job summary

The Women’s Centre of Calgary is seeking a Girls Program Coordinator to develop leadership opportunities for young women and girls through multi-week programming. The role collaborates with team members to connect participants with community resources and to foster meaningful leadership experiences.

You will empower participants to turn ideas into actions, engage diverse communities using strengths-based approaches, and contribute to a safe, inclusive centre.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or undergraduate degree in Social Work or Child and Youth Care; combination of experience and education will be considered.
  • Registration and membership in good standing with a regulatory body (if applicable).
  • 2+ years of experience working with children and/or youth.
  • Experience facilitating group programming for young people.
  • Knowledge of social and developmental issues related to young women and girls.
  • Basic assessment and safety planning skills.
  • Problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.

Responsibilities

  • Organize and facilitate multi-week, group-based programming to develop leadership skills and community connections.
  • Build and maintain relationships with other organizations and community groups.
  • Use culturally appropriate, strengths-based practices to engage diverse participants.
  • Empower participants to act on their ideas for projects and events.
  • Respond to incidents using assessment, planning and de-escalation skills.
  • Ensure program statistics are collected and documented in a timely manner.
  • Participate in impact and evaluation activities.
  • Contribute to a positive work environment and psychological safety.
  • Build relationships with clients, volunteers, and supporters of The Women’s Centre of Calgary.
  • Participate in equity, diversity, and inclusion activities as well as Truth and Reconciliation.

The Women’s Centre of Calgary is a community organization that provides a safe and supportive space accessed by thousands of women and girls in Calgary. Our mission is to be every woman’s place for support, connections, and community. Specifically, we connect with women looking for assistance, for opportunities to connect and/or for ways to affect change in their community.

Position overview

The Girls Program Coordinator works collaboratively with other team members to create meaningful opportunities for young women and girls to develop leadership skills, build community, and explore issues that are important to them. Through group-based, multi-week programming, this position empowers young people to work for change in their communities, in alignment with the Centre’s broader goals.

Job duties

Working conditions and physical requirements

The Women’s Centre is a storefront community center operating in an open environment. This role will require attendance and participation in off-site meetings and events in the community. This position requires evening and occasional weekend work.
