Job summary

Coeur Mining's New Afton mine near Kamloops, BC, is seeking a Geotechnical Technician to support underground ground control and QA/QC in field operations.

You will conduct inspections of rockbolts, mesh, shotcrete, and other ground support, collect geological observations, and assist with LiDAR data and reporting. The role requires strong teamwork, safety focus, and ability to work underground.

Qualifications

• Mine Technician Diploma or related diploma, or a post-secondary degree in Applied Sciences, plus one year underground mining experience.
• Or a minimum of five years of underground mining experience with geotechnical inspections or rehabilitation work.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
• Underground mining experience is preferred.
• Experience with geotechnical fieldwork and underground inspections is an asset.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work underground in strenuous field conditions.

Responsibilities

• Conduct QA/QC inspections of underground ground support installations (rockbolts, mesh, straps, shotcrete, cable bolts).
• Complete ground support testing and verification activities (pull tests, shotcrete tests).
• Perform face mapping and collect geotechnical observations in headings.
• Collect and process LiDAR scans in underground headings.
• Document field notes, sketches, and photographs to support reviews.
• Assist with inspections, audits and related documentation of ground conditions.
• Record observations and communicate deficiencies to appropriate personnel.
• Prepare reports documenting QA/QC results and geotechnical activities.
• Ensure field data are stored and organized per site data management standards.
• Support instrumentation programs and ground support trials in the field.

Position Reports To:

Senior Geotechnical Engineer

Position Overview

Supports theUndergroundGeotechnical Engineering team and Mine Operations through ground support QA/QCand geotechnical field data collection to help ensure safe and effective ground control.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct QA/QC inspections of underground ground support installations, includingrockbolts, mesh, straps, shotcrete, cable bolts, and other support systems
• Complete ground support testing and verification activities, such as pull testing, shotcrete testing, and other assigned QA/QC tasks
• Complete face mapping inspections and collect geological and geotechnical observations in active headings and other designated areas
• Collect and process LiDAR scans in underground headings and other designated areas
• Capture field photographs, notes, sketches, and other field documentation to support engineering review and follow-up
• Assistwith other routine underground inspections and audits, and complete associated documentation of inspection findings and changing ground conditions
• Record structural, lithological, groundwater, and ground condition observationsin accordance withsite procedures and plans
• Record deficiencies, non-conformances, and key field observations, and ensure they are communicated and escalated to theappropriate personnelas needed
• Prepare and deliver reports documenting ground support QA/QC results, inspection findings, and other assigned geotechnical activities
• Ensure field data are stored, organized, and documentedin accordance withsite data management standards to support data quality, traceability, and reliable retrieval
• Support geotechnical instrumentation programs through installation, maintenance, inspection, and field troubleshooting activities
• Support the field implementation and follow-up of ground support trials and related geotechnical activities as assigned

Qualifications

Mine Technician Diploma (or related diploma), or a post-secondary degree in Applied Sciences or a related technical discipline, plus one year of underground mining experience;

or a minimum of five years of underground mining experience, including demonstrated experience with geotechnical inspections or rehabilitation work

• Proficiencywith computers and Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
• Underground mining experience is preferred
• Experience with underground inspections, survey,instrumentationand/or geotechnical fieldwork is considered an asset
• Familiarity with underground ground support systems and mining methods is considered an asset
• Experiencewith 3D mining and technical software such as Leapfrog,Deswik, and point cloud software such asPointStudioandCloudCompareis considered an asset
• Strong observational, organizational, and documentation skills
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50lbs
• Ability to work underground and perform strenuous fieldwork
• Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of personnel and work independently
• Valid driver’s license required including experience operating a vehicle with a manual transmission.

Other Requirements

Candidates will be required to participate in a comprehensive qualification process, including:

• Successful completion of pre-placement functional screen
• Provide proof of a valid Class 5 driver’s license
• Demonstrate eligibility to work in Canada
• Provide confirmation of valid educational requirements

Compensation

The anticipated salary for this position will be between $80,000 to $110,000. A comprehensive benefits program and performance bonus plan will also be provided. This is not a camp operation and therefore the successful candidate will be required to relocate to the Kamloops area or travel and accommodation will be the responsibility of the successful applicant.
