Job summary

WSP in Canada is seeking a Geotechnical Field Services Technician. This junior‑level role delivers field testing and geotechnical data for safe, resilient infrastructure across the region, with opportunities to grow technical skills under mentors.

You will perform field tests such as compaction, concrete and soil sampling; assist senior technicians with site investigations and borehole logging; and contribute to diverse projects from transportation to land development.

Qualifications

• Experience through co‑op, internship, or early career work in construction materials testing, field inspection, or geotechnical environments.
• College technical diploma or university degree in civil, construction, geotechnical, environmental, or related disciplines (asset).
• Curiosity and willingness to learn geotechnical testing methods and industry standards.
• Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather and traveling to field sites.
• Meets safety requirements and demonstrates proactive hazard awareness.
• A valid driver’s licence.
• Hands-on problem solver who takes initiative in fast‑paced environments.

Responsibilities

• Perform field testing including compaction testing, concrete testing, soil sampling, and materials verification.
• Collect accurate geotechnical data to support design, construction monitoring, and regulatory compliance.
• Assist senior technicians and engineers with site investigations, drill rig support, and borehole logging.
• Apply geotechnical testing standards and quality procedures to ensure reliable, defensible data.
• Prepare organized and complete field notes, documentation, and daily testing summaries.
• Support and participate in WSP’s safety programs, contributing to strong site‑based hazard awareness.
• Contribute to diverse projects — transportation, buildings, infrastructure, land development — where every day brings something new.

Compensation

• AB, BC, NT, NU, SK & YT: $51,800 – $68,600
• MB & ON: $47,200 – $65,000
• NB, NL, NS, PEI & QC: $46,800 – $62,100
