Job summary

A leading company in engineering, architecture, design, and consulting is seeking a Geotechnical/Environmental Field Technician in Thunder Bay, ON. The successful candidate will execute field work, manage inspections, and prepare detailed reports for various environmental services, contributing to innovative solutions for the natural environment.

Qualifications

  • Preference given to those with 2+ years of related field experience.
  • Must possess excellent communication skills in English.
  • Must have access to a vehicle and a valid Canadian driver's license.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise test pit and borehole drilling and log samples.
  • Write clear and concise field inspection reports.
  • Schedule and coordinate field operations including site inspections.

    Your work environment at EXP

    In this role, you will be a part of the Earth & Environmental sector, based in the Thunder Bay, ON office.

    What a day at EXP has in store for you

    • Executing field work - test pit and borehole drilling supervision and sample logging (both geotechnical and geo-environmental)
    • Scheduling and coordinating field operations (drilling, site inspections)
    • Writing clear and concise field inspection reports
    • Field work and associated reporting for a variety of Environmental Services, including, but not limited to:
      • Environmental Site Assessments (Phase I and Phase II ESAs)
      • Environmental Site Remediation (Underground Storage Tank Removals, Soil and/or Groundwater Remediation Oversight)
      • Groundwater and surface water sampling
      • Excess Soil Studies

    What your experience looks like

    • Environmental/Geological/Civil Technician or Technology Diploma or Undergraduate Degree in Natural Sciences (Earth Science, Environmental Science, or Engineering)
    • Preference given to those with 2+ years of related field experience
    • Excellent communication skills (verbal/written) in English
    • Familiarity and working knowledge of AutoCAD, Civil 3D, gINT, and Microsoft Office desirable
    • Must be comfortable working in the field on construction project sites and traveling out of town, possibly for several days duration
    • Strong people skills and ability to work with a wide variety of staff and clients
    • A valid Canadian driver’s license is required and access to a vehicle is desired (mileage allowance is provided
