Geotechnical Engineer-in-Training (EIT)

Real field work, real mentorship, and a clear path to your P.Eng.

Location: Vancouver, BC

About the role

PRI is looking for a Geotechnical EIT to join our growing Vancouver office. You will spend real time in the field, real time on the data, and work under the direct mentorship of senior Professional Engineers as you build toward your P.Eng.

The work spans land development, buildings, municipal and transportation infrastructure, and mining, including dams and tailings storage facilities, so you will see a genuine range of ground conditions and project types early in your career.

What you'll do
  • Carry out geotechnical site investigations, including drilling and test pit supervision, soil and rock logging, and in-situ testing such as SPT and CPT.
  • Process and interpret data into borehole logs, subsurface profiles, cross-sections, and preliminary ground models.
  • Perform routine analyses under senior direction, including bearing capacity, settlement, slope stability, and retaining wall and shoring checks.
  • Gain exposure to seismic work and to dams, tailings facilities, and mine site geotechnical programs, including instrumentation and surveillance data.
  • Prepare draft memos, figures, and report sections for senior review, and coordinate soil and rock laboratory testing.
  • Attend site visits and conduct field reviews, documenting conditions and flagging issues to the responsible engineer.
  • Build your competencies toward EGBC P.Eng. registration, with active support from your mentor and the firm.
What you bring
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil or Geological Engineering with a geotechnical focus.
  • Registered as an EIT with EGBC, or eligible for immediate registration.
  • Solid grounding in soil and rock mechanics, and familiarity with software such as GeoStudio, AutoCAD, or GIS tools.
  • Strong technical writing and communication skills, and real care for accuracy.
  • Curiosity about the ground, a strong work ethic, and genuine willingness to get into the field.
  • Class 5 BC driver's license, and willingness to work outdoors in variable conditions and travel to project and mine sites, including occasional remote or overnight work.
  • Co-op, internship, or summer experience in geotechnical consulting, materials testing, or construction is an asset.
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada.
Why PRI
  • Direct mentorship from senior Professional Engineers, with structured support toward your P.Eng.
  • A genuine mix of field and office work, so you build practical judgment alongside analytical skill.
  • Early exposure to specialized work, including seismic assessment and dam and tailings engineering.
  • Competitive compensation, comprehensive benefits, and support for EGBC fees and technical training.
