Job description

INTERMEDIATE GEOTECHNICAL ENGINEER

Seismic, dams, and complex geotechnical work in our growing Vancouver office

Location: Vancouver, BC & Calgary, AB

About the role

PRI is looking for an Intermediate Geotechnical Engineer to join our growing Vancouver and Calgary offices. This is a hands-on role for someone building toward full project ownership: you will take on your own scopes of work under the guidance of senior engineers, and grow into leading projects and sealing your own work over time. The work spans land development, buildings, municipal and transportation infrastructure, and mining, including dams and tailings storage facilities. Seismic assessment is central to the role, as it is to any consequential geotechnical work in this region.

What you'll do
  • Support geotechnical projects from scoping and site investigation through analysis, design, reporting, and construction support, under the direction of senior staff.
  • Carry out design work for foundations, settlement, slope stability, retaining and shoring systems, earthworks, and ground improvement.
  • Contribute to seismic assessment work, including site classification, liquefaction triggering and mitigation, seismic slope stability, and seismic design parameters.
  • Support geotechnical work on dams and tailings storage facilities, including stability and seepage analysis and instrumentation review, under senior oversight.
  • Plan and carry out site investigations, and interpret field and laboratory data into practical, constructible recommendations.
  • Prepare reports, designs, and field review documentation for review and sealing by a senior engineer.
  • Support scope, budget, and schedule tracking on assigned projects, and help mentor EITs and junior technologists as your experience grows.
What you bring
  • P.Eng. registered with EGBC, or eligible for registration in BC.
  • Degree in Civil or Geological Engineering with a geotechnical specialization.
  • Minimum 4 years of progressive geotechnical consulting experience.
  • Working knowledge of seismic concepts, including site classification and liquefaction assessment, under the BC Building Code.
  • Exposure to dam or tailings work is an asset, including stability and seepage analysis, or familiarity with Canadian Dam Association guidelines.
  • Proficiency with geotechnical software such as GeoStudio, Settle3, PLAXIS, LPile, or gINT.
  • Strong technical writing and communication skills, with a collaborative, team-based approach.
  • Class 5 BC driver's license, and willingness to travel to project and mine sites, including remote work.
Why PRI
  • Meaningful project experience, with the multidisciplinary depth and in-house materials testing laboratories of a national firm behind you.
  • Technically demanding work across development, infrastructure, and mining, including dams and tailings facilities.
  • A growing Vancouver office with strong mentorship and a clear path toward senior and principal roles.
  • Competitive compensation, comprehensive benefits, and support for professional development and EGBC obligations.

PRI is a multidisciplinary engineering and natural sciences consulting firm with offices across British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario, and Nova Scotia. We are an equal-opportunity employer and welcome applications from all qualified candidates. We particularly encourage applications from Indigenous professionals.
