Job summary

Cameco is seeking a geoscientist to lead exploration drill programs and oversee field operations. You will work in a field environment, coordinating with a project geologist and team on data collection and interpretations.

The role emphasizes technical leadership, safety, and mentored development of junior staff, with focus on accurate core logging, data capture, and cross-section interpretation in Saskatchewan field sites.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in geology or related discipline.
  • Minimum four years relevant work experience.
  • Eligible for registration with APEGS.
  • Ability to work in remote locations for extended periods.
  • Digital literacy, proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and analytical skills.
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a technical lead on projects, ensuring geoscientific data and observations are collected from drill programs.
  • Ensure high quality geological observations and interpretations in field and office.
  • Share oversight of exploration field operations including supervision of contractors and geological team members.
  • Oversee contractor management and SH&E programs.
  • Mentor and train junior personnel.
  • Ensure geological data is collected accurately using specialized software and tools.
  • Be responsible for drill core logging and sampling, probing drill holes, and maintaining cross sections.

Job description

In support of Cameco’s exploration projects, you will assist in the execution of exploration drill programs in search for the next world-class uranium deposit. A significant amount of your time will be spent working in field environment with your activities directed by a project geologist or their designate, working on a rotational schedule.

In this role, you will:
  • Act as a technical lead on projects, ensuring that relevant geoscientific data and observations are collected from our drill programs.
  • Ensure high quality geological observations and interpretations are made both in the field and office.
  • Share oversight of exploration field operations including supervision of contractors and geological team members.
  • Oversee contractor management and safety, health, environment, and quality programs.
  • Mentor and train junior personnel.
  • Ensure relevant geological data and observations are accurately collected, using specialized software and tools.
  • Be responsible for drill core logging and sampling, probing drill holes with geophysical tools, creating and maintaining interpretive cross sections, handling drill core boxes, flagging the position of drill trails and drill holes, and other duties associated with drill programs as assigned.
  • Collaborate with the project team to produce high quality geological interpretations and share oversight of exploration field operations, including supervision of contractors and geological team members.
  • Perform office-related activities such as data compilation and interpretation, as well as assisting the project geologist with reporting requirements.
  • bachelor’s degree in geology or related discipline;
  • minimum four years relevant work experience;
  • eligible for registration with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Saskatchewan (APEGS);
  • ability to work in remote locations for extended periods of time;
  • digital literacy, proficiency in Microsoft Office;
  • excellent communication, interpersonal and analytical skills; and
  • valid class 5 driver's license.
Recommended:
  • First Aid, ATV and/or snowmobile training;
  • GIS and 3D geological modelling experience;
  • master’s degree or PHD in geology or geoscience; and
  • previous mineral exploration, drill core logging and/or uranium industry experience.
