Geological Modelling Scientist - PhD/Advanced Degree Required

Role Overview

As a Geological Modelling Scientist, you will bridge the gap between classical geological modelling techniques and modern computational approaches. You will help spearhead the development of our core modelling algorithms; help oversee technical implementation and help establish the scientific foundation for our innovative software platform. This role offers a unique opportunity to shape an emerging technology from its inception and make a significant impact on the geoscience software landscape.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and development of our geological modelling software architecture, integrating explicit and implicit modelling techniques with voxel surface reconstruction, and machine learning and other AI algorithms
• Develop and implement innovative algorithms that enhance traditional geological modelling methods using AI/ML approaches
• Collaborate with software engineers to translate geological concepts into efficient code and user-friendly interfaces
• Stay at the forefront of geological modelling research and technology, identifying new methodologies and technologies for integration
• Design and implement testing protocols to validate model accuracy and performance across diverse geological settings
• Apply advanced geostatistical and spatial statistical techniques to model geological variability, perform stochastic simulations, and quantify subsurface uncertainty for improved decision-making.

Required Qualifications

• PhD in Mathematics, Statistics, Geology or related field with specialization in geological modelling, structural geology, or computational geoscience
• Understanding of 3D geological modelling principles
• Proficiency in programming languages relevant to scientific computing (Python, R, C++, or similar)
• Demonstrated ability to apply mathematical concepts (e.g., interpolation, kriging, radial basis functions, spatial statistics) to geological problems
• Canadian citizen and located in Toronto GTA area

Preferred Qualifications

• Background in geospatial data analysis, remote sensing, or digital outcrop modelling
• Experience with geological uncertainty quantification and risk assessment and applying machine learning to geoscience problems

Technical Skills

• Knowledge of geological modelling software and workflows
• Experience with machine learning frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, and scikit-learn for developing and applying AI models to geoscience data.
• Understanding of 3D visualization techniques and geospatial data management
• Understanding stochastic analysis, geostatistical and spatial statistical techniques to model geological variability.
