Job summary

Flow Genomics, based in Toronto, seeks a Genomics Laboratory Technician (part-time) to support day-to-day lab operations and sequencing workflows. This role is ideal for a current BSc or MSc student looking to gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced genomics setting.

You will assist with DNA library preparation, QC checks, and data collaboration with bioinformaticians while maintaining accurate LIMS records and adhering to safety standards.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a BSc or MSc in Molecular Biology, Genetics, Biochemistry, or related field.
• 1–2 years of hands-on experience in a molecular biology or genomics laboratory.
• Hands-on experience with standard molecular biology techniques such as PCR.
• Meticulous attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and a commitment to producing high-quality, reproducible results.
• Knowledge of lab safety protocols, biosafety practices, and proper handling of biohazardous materials.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
• You are a lifelong learner - independently motivated to continuously learn and stay up to date with the latest scientific trends.
• Eligible for the Biotalent Student Work Placement Program.

Responsibilities

• General Lab Support: Support laboratory operations through equipment maintenance, inventory restocking, waste management, and preparation of commonly-used reagents and consumables.
• Sample Preparation & Sequencing: Perform high-quality DNA library preparation and support DNA sequencing protocols, following standardized procedures and quality standards.
• Quality Control (QC): Execute and document rigorous quality control checkpoints throughout the genomics workflow using standard molecular biology techniques.
• Documentation & Collaboration: Maintain meticulous and organized records in our Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS). Clearly communicate progress, challenges, and results to the team.

Part-time, on-site lab role for a current BSc or MSc student supporting our next-day sequencing workflows in Toronto.

The Opportunity:

As a Genomics Laboratory Technician, you will be a crucial member of our team. You will be responsible for supporting our day-to-day laboratory operations and executing sequencing workflows accurately and efficiently. Work Hours: This is a part time role, ideal for current students (3rd-4th year undergraduate or MSc seeking their first industry opportunity). Hours are expected to be approximately 10–15 hours per week including Fridays 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm, Saturdays 8:00 am - 1:00 pm, and additional shifts scheduled as required.

Key Responsibilities:

• Documentation & Collaboration: Maintain meticulous and organized records in our Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS). Clearly communicate progress, challenges, and results to the team.

Desired Start Date: October 14, 2026 or earlier

Qualifications & Skills:

Required:

• Currently pursuing a BSc or MSc in Molecular Biology, Genetics, Biochemistry, or related field.
• 1–2 years of hands-on experience in a molecular biology or genomics laboratory.
• Hands-on experience with standard molecular biology techniques such as PCR

This position requires a significant amount of in-person work and collaboration onsite at our office in Toronto, Ontario. If you are unable to relocate or commute to the Toronto, Ontario area, this role won't be a match.
