Job summary

Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital in Toronto is seeking a certified genetic counsellor to join our team. This role applies advanced genomics to provide genetic assessment and counselling for research participants, patients and families with neurodevelopmental conditions and rare genetic findings.

The successful candidate will work with multidisciplinary teams, contribute to return-of-results protocols, and help develop health care pathways for kids with developmental disabilities,

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Genetic Counselling or equivalent.
  • Certification (or eligibility) through CAGC and/or ABGC.
  • Experience in neurodevelopmental disorders, autism spectrum disorder, and/or pediatric genetics is an asset.
  • Experience working with research studies and ethics requirements is an asset.
  • Exceptional organizational skills.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently.

Responsibilities

  • Interpreting and communicating genetic test results to research participants and families.
  • Providing post-test genetic counselling to research participants and families, and potentially pre- and post- counselling for patients.
  • Providing psychosocial counselling and facilitating access to clinical, community, and advocacy resources.
  • Assisting with development of return-of-results protocols and participant communication materials.
  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams including clinicians, scientists, psychologists, geneticists, and research coordinators.
  • Participating in ethics submissions, protocol development, and knowledge translation activities as appropriate.
  • Maintaining accurate clinical and research documentation in accordance with institutional, ethical, and privacy requirements.

Job Description

We are seeking a certified genetic counselor to join our team! This position offers an exciting opportunity to apply advanced genomics expertise to provide genetic assessment and counselling for research participants, patients/families with neurodevelopmental conditions, and help develop pathways of care for families with developmental disabilities. In this role, the successful applicant would work alongside internationally renowned research and clinical teams. The Genetic Counsellor will contribute to return-of-results processes and research protocol development related to genomic research in neurodevelopmental disorders as well as to development of health care pathways for kids with neurodevelopmental conditions and rare genetic findings.

Key Responsibilities
