Job summary

SickKids in Toronto, Ontario, Canada seeks a Genetic Counselor to contribute to cancer genetics research and provide genetic counseling to participants in research studies. The role includes organizing clinical confirmation of testing and leading genetic counseling services, research, and education internationally.

Qualifications

• Masters of Science in genetic counseling is required.
• Experience in genetic counseling, preferably cancer and pediatric genetics and research.
• Strong communication skills, both oral and written, including telephone counseling.
• Demonstrated leadership and collaborative teamwork abilities.
• Ability to learn and adapt to new computer programs.

Responsibilities

• Consent patients/families for participation in cancer genomics research.
• Maintain ongoing REB approvals for cancer research.
• Contribute to interpretation of genetic and genomic test results.
• Provide genetic counseling to research participants and organize clinical confirmation of testing.
• Provide international leadership in genetic counseling services, research, and education.

SickKids has released a notification in which they’re inviting candidates for the post of Genetic Counsellor. They’re appointed to Work in a multi-faceted role with a primary focus on contributing to cancer genetics research. They’re also appointed to provide genetic counseling to patients/families that participate in research and organize the clinical confirmation of this testing. • Candidate will have to consenting patients/families to participate in next generation sequencing research related to cancer
• They’re also appointed to participate in other activities related to cancer research including maintaining ongoing REB approval.
• Candidates will have to work in contributing to the interpretation of genetic and genomic test results .
• Candidates will also have to provide genetic counseling to patients/families that participate in research and organizing the clinical confirmation of this testing.
• They’re also appointed to provide international leadership in genetic counseling services, research and education.

Job requirement

• Candidates must obtain effective oral and written presentation and communication skills, including telephone counseling.
• They must obtain superior critical thinking, organizational, time management, decision-making, teaching and continuous learning skills.
• Candidates must attain demonstrated leadership and collaborative teamwork skills.
• Candidates must be masters of science in genetic counseling.
• Candidates must attain experience in genetic counseling, preferably with experience pertaining to cancer genetics and pediatric genetics and in research.
