The University of Manitoba, Department of Surgery, Winnipeg Regional Health Authority and Shared Health Manitoba invite applications for a full-time General Surgeon Specializing in Breast Surgery to join the Section of General Surgery, commencing January 1, 2027, or on a mutually agreed date.

This is a geographical full-time (GFT), contingent position. The successful candidate will be eligible for appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor, or higher depending on current academic rank, in the Max Rady College of Medicine, Rady Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Manitoba. Remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The successful candidate will manage a busy clinical breast practice within a dedicated breast clinic, working alongside surgical oncologists and breast surgeons. The role includes performing oncoplastic procedures and working in partnership with Plastic Surgery through a busy, collaborative breast reconstruction program. Responsibilities include participation in weekly multidisciplinary tumour boards, resident education and quality improvement initiatives to advance breast care in Manitoba.

Supplementary general surgery practice may be available for interested candidates. A broad general surgery skillset and the ability to manage general surgery call at a tertiary centre are preferred. Call arrangements will be discussed with the successful candidate. As a GFT, the position includes a dedicated commitment to resident education and/or research.

With a history spanning nearly 30 years, the Shared Health Breast Health Centre is one of Canada's longest-established multidisciplinary breast clinics. The centre brings together diagnostic services, specialized nursing, social work, dietitian services and lymphedema therapy, with coordinated access to reconstruction, genetics and medical and radiation oncology. Shared electronic charting supports continuity of care and collaboration. The centre currently houses six surgeons, with expansion planning well advanced to enhance the clinic environment and meet growing demand.

Qualifications:

Candidates must be certified or eligible for certification in General Surgery by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba. Candidates should demonstrate expertise in breast surgery and oncoplastic procedures, strong collaborative skills, and a commitment to resident education and quality improvement.

An interest in clinical research is an asset, as is additional postgraduate training in education or research.
