Academic Breast and General Surgeon
Dalhousie University and Nova Scotia Health

The Division of General and Gastrointestinal Surgery in the Department of Surgery at Dalhousie University, Nova Scotia Health and IWK Health are seeking to hire a full-time academic General Surgeon with a focus in Breast disease . This position will have its clinical base at the Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Centre in Halifax, Nova Scotia with breast clinics and surgeries at the IWK Women’s Health Center. The QEII Health Sciences Centre is the tertiary referral and quaternary care centre for approximately 2.5 million people in the Atlantic Provinces. Clinical work will be focused on breast surgery (50-70%) but will include a component of general adult surgical oncology and acute care (30-50%).

The successful candidate will be part of a team consisting of 16 General Surgeons, 4 of whom are breast surgeons/surgical oncologists. The emphasis of this recruitment is for a breast surgical oncologist who specializes in all areas of breast surgical care.

The candidate will be expected to participate in clinical care, teaching, research, and university service depending on academic series. The individual will be required to have experience in teaching and training other healthcare providers in all stages of training. They are also required to have the ability to work in a high volume clinic with strong communication, professionalism and time-management skills. This position will work in a multidisciplinary breast health clinic with nurse navigators, genetics, plastic surgery and radiology. The candidate must be eligible for licensure in Nova Scotia and should have advanced breast surgery training, either from a breast or surgical oncology fellowship. Remuneration is based on a competitive alternate funding plan.
