Overview
The General Manager II is responsible for leading and managing one of NFI's distribution/fulfillment centres in the Greater Toronto Area. This key member of the senior distribution leadership team will inspire and motivate our employees to meet and exceed the team's operational goals and key performance indicators (safety, productivity, service quality). This position is responsible for developing the annual budget and monthly forecasts and for achieving the planned targets for revenue and profit. This position reports to the Senior Director of Warehouse Operations.
Available Shift: Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Responsibilities
Operations Management
- Ensures operational procedures for executing activities for incoming and outgoing shipments, handling and disposition of products, and keeping the highest standards of inventory accuracy in place.
- Develops and manages a comprehensive strategy for the facility by shaping requirements, assessing deliverables, and utilizing resources to help eliminate process problems.
- Plans long-term labor needs based on sales, forecasts, and historical data.
- Conducts analysis of workload compared to labor hours and equipment.
- Manages between 1-10 customers in the warehouse.
- Typically manages 150,000 - 1,000,000+ square feet of facilities and approximately 100 or more employees during non-peak times.
- Collaborates with teams from other facilities to share best practices.
Financials
- Responsible for facility P&L and budget preparation.
- Audits all billing activity for accuracy. Properly signs and authorizes all purchase order requisitions, vouchers, and customer billing.
- Reports on location’s financial and operational performance.
- Conducts monthly review of aging for accounts receivable and works closely with the Director and Corporate office to recover balances in a timely fashion.
- Conducts annual review of customer contracts, determining and recommending annual increases to the Regional Vice-President and Director of Business Development.
- Drives continuous improvements in safety, quality, operational efficiency, and delivery while growing and expanding capabilities within the warehouse.
Employee Relations/Development
- Acts as a role model for the department in support of corporate purpose, vision, and values.
- Ensures proper staffing and supports hiring for all facility operations.
- Ensures all new employees are properly onboarded, completing required processes and following a structured training schedule.
- Produces and communicates department goals and individual performance goals to ensure operational success.
- Manages human resources practices with direct reports and adherence to corporate policies.
- Works with Human Resources to resolve employee issues, initiate disciplinary actions, and support building a high-performing team culture.
- Travels to other warehouses and participates in department or company meetings as necessary.
- Provides feedback, coaching, guidance, and recognition to enhance skill development.
- Plays an active role in employee development and talent selection.
- Provides regular coaching and feedback on performance, and manages performance appraisals and compensation recommendations.
- Exhibits a commitment to self-development by staying current on information, tools, and systems.
Safety and Security
- Implements safety and sanitation schedules to ensure compliance with standards such as OSHA, FDA, AIB, or ASI.
- Maintains a clean, safe, and organized work environment by establishing safety and security procedures.
- Ensures the safe, clean, and efficient operation of the facility to meet service standards.
- Supports and participates in safety initiatives.
- Performs safety observations, coaches employees, and recognizes good behaviors.
- Prevents incidents and injuries by overseeing investigations and implementing improvements.
