Summary

The General Manager, Agriculture is responsible for setting the strategic direction and executing on the production, distribution, and sale of Bio-Sul Premium Plus Fertilizer. This includes sourcing product, ensuring operational effectiveness, creating sales/marketing plans, and managing environmental and safety impacts. The role involves providing leadership to foster positive employee/employer relations, projecting a professional corporate image, promoting profitable operations, resource management, high production standards, risk management, and business expansion where appropriate.

Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
  • Establish pricing strategies for Bio-Sul and other products.
  • Develop sales and marketing strategies focused on increasing profitability.
  • Identify growth opportunities within primary and secondary markets, including contracts and acquisitions.
  • Monitor market trends impacting service quality or profit margins.
  • Plan and implement budgets.
Operational Responsibilities
  • Implement corporate preventive maintenance guidelines to reduce downtime and costs.
  • Maintain quality control to ensure high-quality Bio-Sul production.
  • Manage third-party contracts effectively.
  • Monitor and report operational statistics weekly and monthly.
  • Use purchase order systems with clear purchasing guidelines.
  • Create a positive team environment.
Financial Management
  • Implement cost control programs for supplies and services.
  • Conduct profitability analysis and review monthly.
  • Ensure billing and revenue collection are timely.
  • Review profit and loss statements monthly and adjust as needed.
  • Develop operational profit plans including income sources, costs, growth, and margins.
  • Review and negotiate contracts regularly.
  • Forecast monthly operations and review with senior management.
Customer Engagement and Management
  • Promote customer focus throughout operations.
  • Manage sales team objectives and priorities.
  • Participate in community affairs and represent the company positively.
  • Ensure compliance with laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Meet all customer service needs.
  • Manage contracts and proposals.
Team Management
  • Maintain a motivated workforce through effective hiring, training, and evaluation.
Safety and HR Compliance
  • Ensure safe working conditions and compliance with wage laws.
  • Promote safety programs and accident prevention initiatives.
  • Set and review performance goals with reports.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Post-secondary degree or diploma (college/university) or proven operational management experience.
  • Five or more years of experience in the agriculture industry or equivalent.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of the agriculture and fertilizer industry is an asset.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and management skills.
  • Ability to interpret safety rules, manuals, reports, and correspondence; effective speaking skills.
  • Willingness to travel to visit customers and develop relationships.
