The General Manager, Agriculture is responsible for setting the strategic direction and executing the production, distribution, and sale of Bio-Sul Premium Plus Fertilizer. This includes sourcing products, ensuring operational effectiveness, creating sales and marketing plans, and managing environmental and safety impacts. The role requires providing leadership to foster positive employee/employer relations and projecting a professional corporate image. The manager will promote effective and profitable operations, resource management, high production standards, a sound risk management program, and facilitate business expansion where appropriate.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Strategic Leadership:
    • Establish pricing structure for Bio-Sul and other products.
    • Develop sales and marketing strategies to increase profitability.
    • Identify growth opportunities within primary and secondary markets, including contracts and acquisitions.
    • Monitor market trends impacting service quality or profit margins.
    • Plan and implement budgets.
  2. Operational Responsibilities:
    • Implement preventive maintenance programs to reduce downtime and costs.
    • Maintain quality control of Bio-Sul production.
    • Manage third-party contracts effectively.
    • Monitor and report business statistics weekly and monthly.
    • Establish purchasing guidelines and use purchase order systems.
    • Create a positive team environment.
  3. Financial Management:
    • Implement cost control programs.
    • Conduct profitability analyses and review financial statements monthly.
    • Ensure timely billing and revenue collection.
    • Develop profit plans including income sources, costs, growth, and capital needs.
    • Review and negotiate contracts regularly.
    • Forecast monthly operations and review with senior management.
  4. Customer Engagement and Management:
    • Promote customer focus and manage sales objectives.
    • Represent the company positively in community engagements.
    • Ensure compliance with laws, regulations, and company policies.
    • Meet customer service needs and manage contracts and proposals.
  5. Team Management:
    • Hire, train, develop, and evaluate personnel to meet service commitments.
  6. Safety and HR Compliance:
    • Ensure safe working conditions and promote safety programs.
    • Implement accident prevention initiatives.
    • Set and review performance goals with reports.
    • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements:
  • Post-secondary degree or diploma (college or university) with operational management experience.
  • Five or more years of experience in the agriculture industry or equivalent.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of the agriculture and fertilizer industries is an asset.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and management skills.
  • Ability to interpret safety rules, manuals, reports, and correspondence.
  • Willingness to travel for customer visits and relationship building.
