Role Overview
As the General Manager at Puddles Swim School, you will be the driving force behind our day-to-day operations, team leadership, and exceptional customer experience. Reporting directly to ownership, you will oversee all aspects of the swim school’s performance — including staff management, operational efficiency, enrollment growth, parent relations, and quality assurance — to ensure our programs deliver confidence, joy, and water safety to every child who walks through our doors.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee all swim instruction, ensuring adherence to curriculum and safety protocols.
- Plan, organize, and deliver lessons for various age groups and skill levels to foster skill progression and water safety.
- Collaborate with the General Manager to develop and implement long-term plans for the aquatics program, including season goals and objectives.
- Maintain a vigilant presence to ensure safety and enforce pool rules during lessons.
- Coordinate with other instructors and staff to ensure smooth scheduling and operations.
- Participate in staff meetings, training, and professional development.
- Inspire, mentor, and manage a team of coaches, ensuring they meet performance expectations and embody professionalism.
- Provide ongoing training and feedback to staff on coaching techniques and best practices.
- Address any staff concerns and manage schedules, including substitutions.
- Build strong relationships with students and parents, communicating progress and celebrating achievements.
- Track and maintain accurate records of student attendance and progress.
- Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and standards.
- Conduct regular pool area inspections and report any issues to management.
- Assist in maintaining a clean and organized pool area.
- Actively contribute to building a supportive, engaged community both within the school and the local area.
Requirements
- 3–5 years in a management or leadership role, preferably in a swim school, education center, recreation, or child-focused environment.
- Strong people management skills with a proven ability to coach and develop high-performing teams.
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills; ability to juggle multiple priorities and stay calm under pressure.
- Clear and professional communication skills (written and verbal).
- A customer-first mindset and natural relationship-builder.
- Basic familiarity with swim instruction, aquatics safety, or child development is a plus.
- CPR-C and First Aid Certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Working knowledge of registration platforms like iClassPro or Jackrabbit is an asset.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a swim school, recreation, or education-focused business.
- Background in aquatics or swim instruction (as a coach, lifeguard, or instructor).
- Understanding of small business operations including reporting, budgeting, and customer acquisition.
- Experience collaborating with marketing or community outreach teams.
- ChPC Certification (Certified High-Performance Coach) preferred.
