Job description

Venor is proud to partner with Nurse Next Door in their search for a General Manager to lead and grow their Nova Scotia operations.

Nurse Next Door is a global home care agency focused on helping people live happier, healthier lives at home and within the communities they call their own. Founded in Vancouver, Nurse Next Door operates through over 400 locally owned and operated locations across Canada, the USA, Australia, and the UK. As one of North America’s leading home care providers, Nurse Next Door is redefining how care is delivered by helping seniors remain independent, engaged, and comfortable in their own homes. Built on a philosophy of compassion, innovation, and exceptional customer experiences, the organization has earned a reputation for delivering care that goes beyond tasks and truly makes a difference in people’s lives.

As General Manager, you will be responsible for the overall success of the Halifax franchise, leading revenue growth, profitability, business development, operations, and team performance. This role combines the responsibilities of a business leader, community ambassador, and people leader, requiring someone who can identify growth opportunities, build strategic partnerships, develop high-performing teams, and deliver exceptional client experiences. Reporting to the Franchise Owner, you will have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on both business performance and the lives of seniors and their families throughout Nova Scotia.

What You’ll Be Doing

This is a hands‑on leadership role with full responsibility for the growth and performance of the business. Working closely with employees, clients, referral partners, and the local community, you will drive business development, operational excellence, and team engagement while ensuring the franchise continues to deliver exceptional care and achieve its financial objectives.

Regular responsibilities include:

  • Lead all aspects of franchise performance, with accountability for revenue growth, profitability, budget management, and achievement of operational and financial targets.
  • Develop and execute annual business, sales, and marketing plans, establishing measurable objectives and growth strategies to meet or exceed revenue goals.
  • Identify, pursue, and secure new business opportunities through community engagement, referral partnerships, proposals, and strategic relationship building within healthcare and medical networks.
  • Drive brand awareness and market presence through targeted sales and marketing initiatives.
  • Oversee the client journey from initial inquiry through service delivery, ensuring effective intake, conversion, case setup, customer service, and ongoing client satisfaction.
  • Recruit, develop, coach, and lead high-performing teams, providing performance management, training, succession planning, and ongoing professional development.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, engagement, and continuous improvement, achieving strong employee satisfaction and retention results.
  • Ensure compliance with company standards, policies, regulatory requirements, and risk management practices while maintaining safe, effective, and high-quality service delivery.
  • Monitor industry, market, and community trends to identify opportunities, inform strategic decision-making, and support long-term business growth.
  • Track and report on key business, financial, client, and employee performance metrics, implementing action plans to drive continuous improvement and overall franchise success.
What You Bring

You are an entrepreneurial and results‑oriented leader who enjoys building relationships, developing teams, and growing a business. You bring strong commercial acumen, a passion for customer service, and a track record of delivering results through both strategic thinking and hands‑on execution.

  • Progressive leadership experience with operational, financial, and P&L accountability.
  • Post‑secondary education in business, healthcare administration, or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated success driving revenue growth, business development, and profitability.
  • Experience leading teams within high-volume, service‑oriented industries (healthcare, home care, hospitality, retail, transportation, etc.)
  • Strong business acumen, including budgeting, forecasting, performance management, and operational planning.
  • Exceptional relationship‑building and communication skills, with the ability to engage employees, clients, referral partners, and community stakeholders.
  • A proactive, hands‑on leadership style and a willingness to roll up your sleeves when needed.

This is an exciting opportunity for a driven leader to take ownership of a growing business, influence strategic direction, build meaningful community relationships, and make a lasting impact on the lives of seniors and their families throughout Nova Scotia.
