Job summary

  • Address issues such as plumbing leaks, light bulb replacements, door/lock repairs, and basic carpentry.
  • Monitor building systems and report larger issues requiring specialized contractors.
  • Conduct regular walkthroughs of both buildings to identify maintenance needs.
  • Coordinate maintenance tasks across sites efficiently.
  • Complete scheduled maintenance tasks and maintain logs.

Job Position: General Maintenance Person

Anticipated Start Date: Immediate

Hours: 20 hours per week

Pay: CA$22.00 - CA$26.00 per hour

Job Description

The General Maintenance Person reports directly to the Executive Director.

The General Maintenance Person is responsible for the ongoing upkeep, repair, and safe operation of two nonprofit-owned buildings. This role ensures that facilities are clean, functional, safe, and well-maintained to support staff, clients, and visitors. The position involves both preventative maintenance and responding to repair needs in a timely and professional manner.

Key Responsibilities
General Maintenance & Repairs
  • Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on building systems, fixtures, and equipment
  • Address issues such as plumbing leaks, light bulb replacements, door/lock repairs, and basic carpentry
  • Monitor building systems and report larger issues requiring specialized contractors
Building Upkeep (Two Locations)
  • Conduct regular walkthroughs of both buildings to identify maintenance needs
  • Ensure both facilities remain safe, functional, and presentable
  • Coordinate maintenance tasks across sites efficiently
Preventative Maintenance
  • Complete scheduled maintenance tasks (filters, HVAC checks, seasonal upkeep, etc.)
  • Maintain maintenance logs and records of work completed
  • Identify potential issues before they become major repairs
Safety & Compliance
  • Ensure buildings comply with health and safety standards
  • Follow all workplace safety procedures and report hazards immediately
  • Assist with emergency repairs or urgent facility issues as needed
Contractor Coordination
  • Liaise with external contractors for specialized repairs (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, etc.)
  • Provide access and support during contractor visits
  • Follow up on completed work
Grounds & Exterior Maintenance
  • Basic upkeep of exterior areas (snow removal support, litter checks, minor landscaping, etc.)
  • Ensure entrances and exits are safe and accessible year-round
Other Duties
  • Assist with setup for events or room reconfigurations
  • Support delivery handling and general facility logistics
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • Previous experience in general maintenance, building operations, or a related field
  • Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and HVAC systems
  • Ability to work independently across two sites
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Good communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to lift/move moderate weight and perform physical tasks
  • Valid driver’s license and access to vehicle
