Job summary

Hopewell Support Services is seeking a Temporary Full Time Maintenance Technician located in Ariss, ON. The role involves hands-on maintenance across multiple sites in the Guelph-Wellington area, including painting, carpentry, pool maintenance and essential repairs.

You will work under supervision with the Property Enhancement team, performing preventive maintenance, coordinating with contractors, and ensuring safety and compliance in line with agency policies.

Qualifications

JOB SUMMARY

Under the guidance of the Maintenance and Property management Supervisor, and through active participation with the Leadership team, the Maintenance Technician will be responsible for planning, implementing and actively resolving maintenance tasks and work for Hopewell. The Maintenance Technician will be directly involved in hands on work including painting, carpentry, yearly inspections, pool maintenance and basic repairs. The Maintenance Technician also works closely and collaboratively with the Manager of Property Enhancement and outside contractors and vendors to complete larger or specialized work.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Performs general maintenance duties and scheduled preventive maintenance work on physical facilities, equipment and grounds;
  • Drywall and painting: repair drywall, patch, caulk, sand and paint walls; all work to be completed with precision;
  • Carpentry: trim work, installation of handles and knobs (including a variety of locks), maintenance and repair of cabinetry;
  • Plumbing repairs: installation of faucets, showerheads, basic toilet and plumbing repair, maintenance and repair of bathroom furnishing;
  • Electrical repairs: installation of light fixtures, switch plate and outlet covers, maintenance of smoke alarms (battery replacement), ability to operate basic residential breaker panels, assist with problem solving for larger issues;
  • Repair appliances to include, but not limited to, refrigerators, stove and ovens, other household appliances as needed;
  • General working knowledge of HVAC and heating, including air conditioners, furnaces and water heaters;
  • Support fleet management of Hopewell’s vehicles; maintain tires for each program;
  • Strong problem solving skills for maintenance related issues;
  • Maintain awareness of current standards and advances in the Developmental Services Sector, government regulations and legislation as it relates to maintenance of homes and programs
  • Possess and demonstrate knowledge of First Aid, WHMIS, Occupational Health and Safety Act, fire prevention and safety procedures and other areas as deemed necessary by the agency;
  • Ability to use common tools, such as hammers, hoisters, saws, drills, wrenches, etc
  • Must have strong knowledge of swimming pool maintenance and Public Health requirements
  • Ability to use Maintenance software to improve efficiency of work
  • Must be able to work a variety of hours, specifically during low traffic times at each program to ensure completion of work.
ACCOUNTABILITY
  • Required to act with a high degree of integrity, upholding high standards of confidentiality and diplomacy.
  • Communicate regularly with Leadership Team members regarding maintenance issues and resolutions.
  • Report to Maintenance and Property management Supervisor.
  • Each staff member is required to keep up to date with trainings as required, and request additional supports and guidance if unsure of how to manage a situation.
WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TABLE
  • Work flexible hours within a variety of settings as required by the changing needs of the agency
  • Certificate or Diploma in an area such as HVAC repair or building maintenance technology would be considered an asset, but is not a requirement
  • 5+ Years’ experience in building and residential maintenance
  • University or college degree/diploma in a relevant field.
  • Must have a valid class G driver's license.
  • Current First Aid, CPR certifications and Vulnerable sector check (or willingness to obtain), with a commitment to maintaining compliance and best practices.
