Job summary

St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg, part of Shared Health, is seeking a General Duty Nuclear Medicine Technologist for a term position.

The technologist will perform radiopharmaceutical procedures, quality control, patient assistance, and student supervision under the department head's supervision. The successful candidate must graduate from an approved Nuclear Medicine Technologist Program, be eligible for CAMRT registration within three months of hire, and complete CT Imaging Course 1 if not

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an approved Nuclear Medicine Technologist Program.
  • Must be eligible for CAMRT registration within three months of hire.
  • Course 1 of CT Imaging must be completed or enrolment planned.
  • Criminal records check, Vulnerable Sector Search and related checks required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform Nuclear Medicine procedures within Atomic Energy Control Board guidelines.
  • Prepare and administer radiopharmaceuticals as required.
  • Maintain sterile technique and perform quality control functions.
  • Assist with supervision of Nuclear Medicine students and scheduling of routine tests.
  • Handle data manipulation and documentation with confidentiality.

Shared Health leads the planning and coordinates the integration of patient-centered clinical and preventive health services across Manitoba. The organization also delivers some province-wide health services and supports centralized administrative and business functions for Manitoba health organizations.

Position Overview

Under the general supervision of the Department Head, Nuclear Medicine and/or his/her delegate, and while demonstrating a commitment to the Mission, Values, and Management Philosophy of St. Boniface Hospital, the General Duty Technologist is responsible for: performing all varieties of technical procedures within the guidelines of the Atomic Energy Control Board rules and regulations; preparing and administering of radiopharmaceuticals, as required; performing quality control functions; maintaining sterile technique as required; assisting of patients with personal needs, as required; participating in and assisting with the supervision of Nuclear Medicine students; scheduling of routine patient tests; performing data manipulation on the computer; performing routine cleaning duties following testing; and performing other related duties as required.

Experience
  • Previous related experience as a General Duty Nuclear Medicine Technologist preferred.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
  • Graduate of an approved Nuclear Medicine Technologist Program.
  • Successful completion of Course 1 of the CT Imaging course series.

NOTE: If there are no applicants meeting CT Imaging 1 course requirements, consideration will be given to applicants meeting the enrolment eligibility criteria. The successful applicant must enrol in Course 1 at the next available opportunity or at a time mutually agreed upon between the employee and employer.

Certification/Licensure/Registration
  • Successful completion of an accredited Medical Imaging Technology Program, eligible for registration with the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (C.A.M.R.T.) and registration with the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (C.A.M.R.T.) within three months of hire.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Good interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to deal effectively with professional staff at all levels.
  • Ability to retain information on a confidential basis.
  • Mature, professional manner.
