Varsity Tutors, a Nerdy Company, is seeking an online GED Math tutor to help students master arithmetic, fractions, algebra, and data analysis from home. You’ll set your own schedule and earn up to $40/hour while delivering personalized, student-centered lessons using our Live Learning Platform.

Join a platform that matches students to tutors based on teaching style and expertise, with AI-assisted tools to support planning and engagement. Instructors invoice sessions and receive timely payments.

Qualifications

• Deep knowledge of GED Mathematical Reasoning content including arithmetic, fractions, decimals, percentages, algebra, geometry, data analysis, and statistics.
• Ability to explain linear equations, slope and graphing, area and volume formulas, and statistical reasoning.
• Familiar with GED practice materials and adaptive instruction for adult learners.
• Strong communication and engaging teaching style.

What We Look For In a GED Math Tutor

• Advanced Test Mastery: Deep knowledge of GED Mathematical Reasoning content including basic arithmetic, fractions, decimals, percentages, algebra, geometry, data analysis, and quantitative problem solving using the TI-30XS calculator. Ability to explain linear equations, slope and graphing, area and volume formulas, and statistical reasoning while preparing adult learners to achieve passing scores on the GED Math section.
• Strategic Test-Taking & Problem-Solving: Skilled at teaching calculator usage strategies, word problem translation into mathematical expressions, and graph interpretation for the GED Math test. Guides students through solving multi-step equations, applying the Pythagorean theorem, computing measures of central tendency, and using proportional reasoning. Emphasizes building mathematical confidence and systematic problem-solving approaches for non-traditional learners.
• Curriculum Awareness & Adaptive Instruction: Familiar with GED Mathematical Reasoning content standards and common challenges such as fraction operations, setting up algebraic equations from word problems, and interpreting coordinate plane graphs. Adapts instruction using diagnostic pretests, scaffolded skill progressions, and official GED practice materials to support adult learners rebuilding foundational math skills for credential completion.
• Effective Teaching Methods: Ability to identify concepts students commonly struggle with, explain material using multiple approaches, and adapt instruction to meet individual learning needs and styles.
• Strong communication skills and a friendly, engaging teaching style.
• Ability to adapt to different learning styles and student needs.
