Job summary

Varsity Tutors is seeking GED Math tutors to join our Live Learning Platform. Work remotely from home, set your own schedule, and reach a broad nationwide student base. Earn up to $40 per hour and get paid up to twice per week.

You'll leverage AI Tutor Copilot to generate lesson materials and receive support while you invoice for sessions. Ideal candidates have deep GED Math knowledge across arithmetic, algebra, geometry, data analysis and can adapt to different learner needs.

Qualifications

• Deep knowledge of GED Mathematical Reasoning content including arithmetic, fractions, decimals, percentages, algebra, geometry and data analysis.
• Ability to explain linear equations, slope, graphing, area and volume, and statistical reasoning for adult learners.
• Experience using diagnostic pretests and adapting instruction to GED practice materials.

Responsibilities

• Deliver 1-on-1 online GED Math tutoring sessions via the Live Learning Platform.
• Instruct using multiple approaches and adapt to individual learning needs.
• Invoice for sessions and manage scheduling with students.

What We Look For In a GED Math Tutor

• Advanced Test Mastery: Deep knowledge of GED Mathematical Reasoning content including basic arithmetic, fractions, decimals, percentages, algebra, geometry, data analysis, and quantitative problem solving using the TI-30XS calculator. Ability to explain linear equations, slope and graphing, area and volume formulas, and statistical reasoning while preparing adult learners to achieve passing scores on the GED Math section.
• Strategic Test-Taking & Problem-Solving: Skilled at teaching calculator usage strategies, word problem translation into mathematical expressions, and graph interpretation for the GED Math test. Guides students through solving multi-step equations, applying the Pythagorean theorem, computing measures of central tendency, and using proportional reasoning. Emphasizes building mathematical confidence and systematic problem-solving approaches for non-traditional learners.
• Curriculum Awareness & Adaptive Instruction: Familiar with GED Mathematical Reasoning content standards and common challenges such as fraction operations, setting up algebraic equations from word problems, and interpreting coordinate plane graphs. Adapts instruction using diagnostic pretests, scaffolded skill progressions, and official GED practice materials to support adult learners rebuilding foundational math skills for credential completion.
• Effective Teaching Methods: Ability to identify concepts students commonly struggle with, explain material using multiple approaches, and adapt instruction to meet individual learning needs and styles.
• Strong communication skills and a friendly, engaging teaching style.
• Ability to adapt to different learning styles and student needs.
