Job description

Quebec City, Canada | Posted on 09/11/2026

BKOM Studios is seeking an experienced Game Designer - Content implementation focus to act as the "Dungeon Master" for our upcoming major PC and Console productions. As an architect of the experience, you don’t just populate a world; you sculpt the player's journey, define the adventure's pacing, and give meaning to every encounter within a high-fidelity environment.

This role sits at the intersection of environmental storytelling, quest design, and technical implementation. We are looking for a professional capable of transforming grey box environments into a living world, where every dungeon tells a story and every reward reinforces the sense of progression unique to major action titles.

Contract Type: Temporary Contract (Contract through May 2027, with the possibility of extension).

YOUR DAY-TO-DAY

As a Game Designer, you are the guardian of immersion. Your daily work is a direct embodiment of our core values:

Humility and courage
  • Design and iterate on the content of our level blocking
  • Present gameplay event ideas and content flow plans to the creative team
  • Assist with creating strong environmental storytelling via the tools available to you by working with the art and narrative teams
Make it your own
  • Implement your ideas directly within the Unreal editor - placing NPCs, enemies, encounters, lore elements, environmental objects, treasures, and narrative cues to create cohesive and immersive levels that reward exploration.
  • Orchestrate loot progression: determining where key equipment, materials, resources etc. should drop, at what quantity, etc. to maintain long-term engagement.
Level up, together
  • Collaborate closely with the team to envision and utilize tools and pipelines to efficiently populate levels.
  • Work with Level Artists and Art Directors to ensure that aesthetics and visual storytelling perfectly support the gameplay experience.
  • Share your tips and organizational methods within editing tools (Unreal Engine) to elevate the collective efficiency of the design team.
Forged by the game, driven by passion
  • Infuse your passion for action/RPG gaming into every area of the game, ensuring the world feels alive and reactive to player actions.
  • Ensure that the difficulty of each level is properly scaled, so that each level challenges the player’s mastery of its mechanics and that difficulty ramps properly from level to level across 11 floors.
  • Tirelessly test your own levels and quests, always searching for that small detail—a hidden dialogue, a well-placed secret that transforms an ordinary play session into a memorable moment.
Requirements
  • Work location: Quebec (Hybrid Mode) or remote.
  • Experience: A minimum of 5 years in gameplay, content, or quest design, ideally with relevant experience on action or ARPG titles developed for PC or Consoles.
  • Proficient in using advanced level editors, ideally of working within the Unreal Engine.
  • A deep understanding of current industry standards (pacing, UX, environmental storytelling) on home consoles and PC.
  • Ability to tell stories through the environment and structure engaging quest arcs.
  • Ability to articulate ideas clearly and collaborate with art and technical departments to bring concepts to life.
  • A masterful command of English (oral and written) to navigate an international production environment.
NICE-TO-HAVES
  • Experience in creative writing, video game screenwriting, or ‘narrative thinking’.
  • Experience crafting the pacing of levels (encounters, exploration, hazards)
  • Experience crafting, implementing, refining questlines or missions for levels
  • Experience adjusting, crafting, or expanding level blocking to support experiential needs of players, following testing and feedback.
  • Strong passion for deep progression mechanics and reward systems.

Joining BKOM means choosing a human, talented, and stimulating work environment where your impact is real.

  • Contract Type: Temporary Contract
  • Work Location: Remote (Quebec City, Canada) or hybrid work in Quebec City.
  • Remuneration: Competitive and based on experience and expertise.
  • Workload: Full-time (approximately 37.5 hours per week).
  • Work Environment: A team culture centered on a passion for gaming, respect, and shared enjoyment (Forged by gaming, driven by passion).
