Job summary

National Diabetes Trust seeks a part-time Donations Pickup Driver to operate up to 29 hours per week, collect donated clothing and household items on established routes, and deliver them to partner storage facilities. The role emphasizes safety, route planning, and strong public-facing communication.

Candidates should hold a Full Class 5/G license, have 5+ years driving experience or 2 years with professional training, and demonstrate excellent customer service and map-reading skills.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 Education or equivalent experience.
• Ability to read maps.
• Ability to handle 10-50 lbs. loads.
• Ability to drive a 3-Ton (16 foot) straight truck.
• Strong organizational skills, ability to map routes for efficient pickup.
• Ability to project a positive business-like image to the public.
• Ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of people.
• Ability to provide calm assistance to upset clients.
• Ability to maintain public relations type attitude even during stressful situations.
• Ability to understand and follow written or verbal instructions.
• Good command of the English language.
• Superior customer service skills.
• Must have Full Class 5 and / or G license or higher, passenger car or light truck.
• Must have a minimum of 5 years actual driving experience at the above level. 2 years if the driver has received professional commercial vehicle training.
• Must have a clean driver abstract, less than 21 days old, with no violations or accidents within the last 3 years.

Responsibilities

• Drive established routes to collect donated clothing and household items from homes and donation bins.
• Deliver items to corporate partners and storage facilities.
• Promote the mission of the National Diabetes Trust to the public and volunteers.
• Perform pre- and post-trip inspections and complete required paperwork daily.
• Check in with dispatch at start, midday, and end of route.
• Unload merchandise as instructed and return equipment daily.
