Job summary

Qualcomm in Toronto invites an aspiring Design Methodology Engineer intern to join our mobility and AI hardware initiatives. You’ll build optimized tools with project teams to improve execution workflows, power, performance, and area while exploring LLM/AI-enabled design solutions.

Ideal candidates are enrolled in Electrical/Computer Engineering, have 1+ years programming (C/C++, Python), and familiarity with Verilog and Linux.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in Electrical or Computer Engineering program (or related field).
• 1+ years of academic programming experience (C, C++, Python, etc.).
• Familiarity with industry IC design tools (synthesis, simulation, STA).
• Knowledge of Verilog, TCL, Python is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Gain hands-on experience with back-end design flow.
• Assist in flow scripting and benchmarking.
• Develop AI/ML solutions to enhance design efficiency.
• Leverage LLM/EDA tools to drive PPA optimization.
• Support physical verification and timing closure.

Role Overview

As a Design Methodology Engineer, you will be at the forefront of innovation – building optimized tools to help execution teams get their products out the door. You will be working with project teams to enhance the implementation workflow and optimize power, performance, and area. You will also utilize state-of-the-art LLM and AI models to build solutions which push productivity and reduce costly design cycles.

Responsibilities

• Gain hands-on experience with the complete back-end design flow
• Assist in flow scripting and benchmarking efforts
• Develop AI/ML solutions to enhance design efficiency and scalability
• Leverage LLM and EDA tools to drive PPA optimization
• Support physical synthesis with a focus on power and area trade-offs
• Assist with static timing verification and timing closure
• Conduct physical verification (DRC,ANT,LVS,ERC,…)
• Perform EM/IR analysis to improve power integrity and overall design quality

Preferred Qualifications

• Enrolled in Electrical or Computer Engineering University program
• Knowledge of industry standard IC design tools (synthesis, simulation, equivalence checking, static timing analysis) is an asset
• Experience with scripting, Linux/Unix environment
• Tools/Languages: Verilog, TCL, Python, Perl, C/C++
• Some understanding of ASIC/IC design flow

Education Requirements

• In study towards a bachelor’s, master's, or Ph.d. degree in one of the following: Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Engineering Science, Computer Science, or related field
• For 16-month internships: must be available May/June 2027 - August/September 2028
• Expected graduation date of November 2028 or later.
• 1+ years of academic experience with programming languages such as C, C++, Python, etc

Pay range and Other Compensation & Benefits

$54,600.00 - $103,350.00

The above pay scale reflects the broad, minimum to maximum, pay scale for this job code for the location for which it has been posted. Even more importantly, please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Qualcomm. We also offer a competitive annual discretionary bonus program and opportunity for annual RSU grants (employees on sales-incentive plans are not eligible for our annual bonus).
