Job summary

Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital Foundation in Strathroy, ON is seeking a Fund Development Officer to advance fundraising priorities through cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of a portfolio of mid-level and major gift donors and prospects.

Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of progressive fundraising experience.

Position Summary

The Fund Development Officer is responsible for advancing the Foundation's fundraising priorities through the strategic cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of a portfolio of mid-level and major gift donors and prospects.

Working closely with the Director of Philanthropy & CEO, the Fund Development Officer develops meaningful relationships with individuals, families, businesses, and community leaders to secure philanthropic support for hospital priorities. The successful candidate will play a key role in identifying and qualifying prospects, moving donors through the giving cycle, and achieving annual fundraising goals through a donor-centered approach.

This position requires a highly motivated relationship builder who is comfortable engaging donors, conducting face-to-face meetings, preparing gift proposals, and managing multiple fundraising opportunities simultaneously.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage a portfolio of qualified mid-level and major gift donors and prospects.
  • Develop and implement individualized cultivation, solicitation, stewardship, and engagement strategies designed to increase donor involvement and philanthropic support.
  • Conduct regular donor visits, both independently and alongside Foundation leadership, physicians, hospital staff, and volunteers.
  • Identify, qualify, and advance prospective donors through the fundraising pipeline using established moves management practices.
  • Prepare compelling funding proposals, gift agreements, briefings, presentations, and stewardship reports.
  • Secure philanthropic investments that support annual fundraising goals and Foundation priorities.
  • Monitor portfolio activity, donor engagement, and revenue performance, ensuring appropriate follow-up and consistent relationship management.
  • Work collaboratively with leadership to develop solicitation strategies for leadership and transformational gift opportunities.
Donor Relations & Stewardship
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with donors, community partners, physicians, hospital leaders, and volunteers.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for assigned donors, providing exceptional donor service and personalized engagement opportunities.
  • Match donor interests and philanthropic aspirations with emerging hospital priorities and funding opportunities.
  • Ensure donors receive timely recognition, stewardship, and meaningful reporting on the impact of their support.
  • Develop strategies to retain and upgrade annual donors into mid-level and major gift opportunities.
  • Support the creation and implementation of donor recognition and stewardship initiatives that strengthen donor loyalty and long-term engagement.
  • Proactively identify new individual, corporate, and community fundraising prospects through research, referrals, events, and networking activities.
  • Assess donor capacity, inclination, and readiness to give to support portfolio growth and long-term fundraising success.
  • Maintain a healthy pipeline of qualified prospects and future major gift opportunities.
  • Participate in community engagement activities to increase awareness of the Foundation's mission and fundraising priorities.
Campaign Support & Strategic Initiatives
  • Support major fundraising campaigns, capital projects, and strategic funding priorities.
  • Assist in developing campaign strategies, Materials, donor engagement plans, and solicitation materials.
  • Work collaboratively with Foundation staff, volunteers, campaign cabinet members, and hospital leadership to support fundraising initiatives.
  • Participate in donor events, cultivation opportunities, and community outreach activities as required.
Administration & Reporting
  • Maintain accurate and timely records of donor interactions, strategies, proposals, and outcomes within the CRM system.
  • Track and report on fundraising activity, donor progression, pipeline development, and revenue outcomes.
  • Ensure donor information is managed with the highest level of confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Contribute to fundraising planning, budgeting, and performance evaluation processes.
Qualifications
  • 3-5 years of progressive experience in fundraising, major gifts, sales, business development, relationship management, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated success building relationships, securing commitments, or achieving revenue-related goals.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, presentation, and influencing skills.
  • Ability to engage confidently with donors, community leaders, business owners, physicians, and volunteers.
  • Strong organizational and project-management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Self-motivated, results-oriented, and comfortable working both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Post-secondary education in Fundraising, Business, Communications, Public Relations, or a related field is considered an asset.
  • CFRE designation or progress toward certification is considered an asset.
Technical Skills
  • Experience using donor databases or CRM systems, preferably Raiser's Edge NXT.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Experience with donor tracking, prospect management, reporting, and fundraising metrics.
  • Familiarity with prospect research tools and donor analytics is considered an asset.
  • Salary Range: $60,000-$70,000, commensurate with experience.
