Job description

Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia is currently searching for a Functional Analyst to join our team in Burnaby!

The Functional Analyst at EGBC plays a crucial role in enhancing off the shelf systems such as Microsoft Teams, SharePoint and Office365, to support existing and improved business processes. They recommend and configure off the shelf solutions to meet the needs of EGBC and system users. This involves conducting thorough assessments of current systems, gathering and documenting business requirements, and collaborating with key personnel to ensure alignment with EGBC's goals. They analyze systems, identify areas for improvement, and develop plans to implement new configurations, installations, or updates of existing systems that can benefit the organization. The Functional Analyst also provides training and support to end-users, ensuring they can effectively utilize new systems. By bridging the gap between business needs and technology solutions, the Functional Analyst ensures efficient and effective operations, ultimately driving business success and innovation.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING
  • Administering interviews, workshops, and surveys with business users, managers, and other audiences to gather detailed business requirements.
  • Developing detailed process maps to visualize current workflows and identify areas for improvement.
  • Analyzing existing off the shelf systems and business processes to identify inefficiencies, gaps, and areas for improvement.
  • Preparing IS and system users for upcoming feature and functional changes.
  • Ensure the compliance and security of solutions with relevant regulations such as FIPPA and incorporates robust security measures.
  • Designing technical specifications and system designs based on business requirements, including the creation of prototypes and mock‑ups to visualize proposed solutions and gather feedback from audiences.
  • Collaborating with IS Infrastructure and Development teams to design system architecture that will support the functional requirements of a solution and complement existing IS services. Identifying and defining integration points with other systems and ensuring seamless data flow.
  • Overseeing and engaging in the implementation of new systems or updates, ensuring they are completed on time and within budget.
  • Conducting quality assurance testing, including unit testing, integration testing, and user acceptance testing (UAT).
  • Creating detailed documentation, including user manuals, system specifications, and training materials.
  • Scripting to perform data extraction, transformation, analysis and automate repetitive tasks and integrate various third‑party software systems to enhance efficiency and streamline processes.
  • Training employees on new systems and processes through sessions and workshops. Developing training materials and conducting training sessions for end‑users to ensure they can effectively use the new system.
  • Collaborate with the Project Management Office to move projects forward and follow project management and change management recommended practices.
  • Other duties as assigned by direct leader and, as appropriate, members of the divisional leadership team.
WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TABLE

The successful applicant will possess the following:

  • 5+ years of relevant previous experience in detailing, documenting and implementing technology solutions.
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related is preferred.
  • Certifications like PMI‑PBA (Professional in Business Analysis) or CBAP (Certified Business Analysis Professional) can be advantageous.
  • 3+ years of experience assisting clients with implementing software applications.
  • 3+ years of experience in leading and managing projects, particularly those involving software development, system implementation, or process improvement.
  • 3+ years of experience with software development life cycles, scripting, debugging, and data analysis.
  • Experience working in a support help desk or software support capacity.
