Buffalo Trail Public Schools is pleased to offer a full-time probationary teaching opportunity at Holt Colony School, located near Irma, Alberta, for the 2025–2026 school year. This unique teaching position involves providing instruction across Grades 1 to 9 in a multi-grade Hutterite Colony setting. The successful candidate will demonstrate flexibility, cultural responsiveness, and a commitment to inclusive and language-rich learning environments. Additional duties may be assigned by the principal in support of school operations. Specific Position Duties
- Experience teaching in a Hutterite Colony School is considered an asset xperience in a Hutterite Colony School
- Demonstrated ability to support English as an Additional Language (EAL) learners
- Experience teaching in a multi-grade classroom environment, with differentiated instruction to support a wide range of abilities and learning needs
- Flexibility and cultural awareness to support students and families in a faith-based communal learning environment
Qualifications And General Duties
- Valid Alberta Teaching Certificate
- Demonstrates a student-centered approach, committed to maximizing learning in a safe and caring environment
- Experience and/or training in the application of Assessment for Learning strategies, including formative assessment and varied summative assessments
- Ability to create a positive, inclusive learning environment and foster strong professional relationships with students
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively within a small school team and broader community
- Demonstrates a strong commitment to ongoing professional growth in alignment with the Alberta Teaching Quality Standard
- Experience working in rural, multi-graded, or culturally unique settings is considered an asset
The Holt School is a modern facility that was carefully constructed by the community, which serves the children of the Holt Hutterrian Brethren Colony. The student population consists of 10 English as an Additional Language (EAL) students in grades 1 to 9. The students work closely with their teacher and a full-time educational assistant to support the learning needs of the students. Also included in the educational team at Holt is a collaborative and supportive German Teacher who also cares for and teachers the children outside of the regular school day.
The Holt School can be found on the Holt Colony, which is conveniently located approximately 25 minutes northwest of Wainwright, just off Highway 881. The colony is very progressive and specializes in a wide range of agricultural products. The people of the colony are very warm and inviting and work hard along with the German Teacher and English school staff for their children's education.
