Buffalo Trail Public Schools is excited to offer a full-time temporary Grade 1 teaching opportunity at Amisk School in Amisk, Alberta for the 2025–2026 school year. This position is ideal for an educator passionate about early childhood learning and committed to nurturing the social, emotional, and academic development of young learners.

The successful candidate will demonstrate alignment with the Alberta Teaching Quality Standard, particularly in inclusive learning environments, foundational literacy and numeracy, and engaging pedagogy that reflects the needs of primary-aged students. Specific Position Duties
  • Demonstrated training or experience in teaching Division I students, focusing on developing early literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Experience and/or training in differentiated instruction to support a wide range of learners, including students with complex needs.
  • Ability to foster a positive, inclusive, and developmentally responsive classroom environment that supports student well-being and engagement.
Qualifications And General Duties
  • A valid Alberta Teaching Certificate
  • Experience working with Google Suite
  • A dynamic, student-centered educator committed to maximizing learning in a safe and caring environment
  • Demonstrated experience with Assessment for Learning strategies, including formative assessment, differentiated instruction, and varied summative assessment practices
  • Proven ability to use technology to enhance instruction and student engagement
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues, and dependable with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate in a team setting
  • Committed to ongoing professional growth and reflective practice in alignment with the Alberta Teaching Quality Standard
  • A willingness to contribute to school-wide initiatives and extracurricular activities is considered an asset

Amisk School is a small rural school serving students from ECS through grade 3. Our school fosters a close-knit community that believes in nurturing and developing the whole child. Primary learning is our focus, encouraging students to grow in all aspects. Our staff collaborates well to maximize student learning and experiences.

Located in the Village of Amisk, our school serves the communities of Amisk, Hughenden, Czar, and Metiskow. The area offers facilities for skating, curling, bowling, golf, libraries, a dance academy, and community halls. Nearby Shorncliff Lake Park provides recreational boating and swimming in summer, and snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and wildlife viewing in winter. Housing is available at reasonable rates, with a short drive to Hardisty and Wainwright.
