Job summary

Northern Gateway Public Schools is seeking an Education Assistant for Hilltop High School to support students in a Life Skills Program. The role is full-time (1.0 FTE) and involves one-on-one work to assist in learning and development.

The successful candidate will need to establish relationships with students, parents and staff, work with teachers and other assistants, and follow directions while upholding NGPS policies. A Teaching Assistant Certificate is an asset.

Job description

Successful candidate responsibilities:

• Working with students one-on-one in a Life Skills Program

Preference will be given to candidates who:

• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with children, parents and staff
• Work collaboratively and co-operatively with teachers and other educational assistants in the classroom/school
• Understand and carry out oral and written direction
• Work independently with minimal instruction
• Demonstrate effective organizational and communication skills
• Respect confidentiality
• Practice professionalism with all HTH students, staff, administration, parents and public
• Are aware of NGPS policies and administrative procedures
• Have an understanding of the teaching/learning process
• Have strong interpersonal skills and patience
• Enjoys working in a team environment
• A Teaching Assistant Certificate would be an asset

Start Date:

• As soon as a suitable candidate is found

Hours:

• 6.5 hours a day, 5 days a week
