Job summary

Upper Canada Child Care in Thornhill is seeking an Assistant Educator to support developmentally appropriate, play-based programming in-centre. This fully in-centre role is 40 hours per week with an 8-hour shift Monday–Friday.

Qualifications

• A recent Vulnerable Sector Check
• Health assessment and immunization as required by legislation
• CPR-C and Standard First Aid (training provided upon selection)
• Basic knowledge of developmental needs of children
• Experience with inquiry/play-based program design and documentation an asset
• Uses initiative and solves problems calmly
• Strong written and verbal communication with families and coworkers
• Physical and emotional stamina to supervise children in various settings including outdoors
• Ability to use computer systems; Dayforce and Storypark familiarity
• Moderate physical effort (kneeling, pushing, pulling, bending, carrying)

Responsibilities

• Applies legislative expectations to support a program aligned with Ministry requirements and Upper Canada Child Care's program statement
• Participates in professional development, staff meetings, and training
• Engages with children to provide a positive learning experience and assists with meals, toileting, dressing
• Fosters ongoing communication with parents about the program and their children
• Completes program charts, daily logs, reports, and other administration tasks
• Uses Storypark for pedagogical documentation guiding program development
• Collaborates with team members, school personnel, and outside agencies to support all children
• Provides guidance to students and volunteers as needed
• Identifies children needing additional support and helps design and implement individual support plans
