Job summary

The Wilder Institute's Calgary Zoo is seeking permanent full-time Animal Care Technicians to perform daily animal care, habitat maintenance, and welfare monitoring. You will support training, documentation, and public-engagement activities while upholding safety and high standards of care.

Applicants should have at least 2 years of zoo/aquarium experience and a Bachelor’s in Zoology or related field. The role requires indoor/outdoor work in varying conditions and a commitment to wildlife

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Zoology or related field; experience considered.
• Minimum 2 years of zoo/aquarium work experience preferred.
• Strong knowledge of animal welfare standards and conservation practices.

Responsibilities

• Provide and monitor prescribed diets for various animals.
• Assess animal health, weight, and body condition regularly.
• Maintain habitats and back-of-house areas; participate in pest management.
• Mentor Animal Care Assistants and staff; support training initiatives.
• Administer prescribed treatments per protocols.
• Document animal welfare observations accurately.
