Job summary

The Wilder Institute's Calgary Zoo invites applications for a fixed-term Animal Care Technician position in Calgary, Alberta. You will care for a variety of species, monitor welfare, maintain exhibits, and support educational programs.

Requirements include at least 2 years of animal care experience at an accredited zoo or aquarium, a Bachelor's in Zoology or related field, and a valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s license.

Qualifications

• At least 2 years’ animal care experience at an accredited zoo or aquarium.
• Bachelor's in Zoology or related field, or equivalent experience.
• Valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s license.
• Familiarity with ZIMS is highly desirable.
• Ability to follow protocols and work as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Provide and monitor prescribed diets for a variety of animals.
• Conduct regular assessments of weight, body condition, and health to identify issues early.
• Maintain habitats and back-of-house areas; participate in pest management.
• Identify maintenance needs and mentor animal care assistants.
• Administer prescribed treatments per established protocols.
• Observe and document animal welfare and report changes to staff.
