Position: Front Desk Worker, Central City Housing Society

About Central City Foundation and Housing Society

Central City Foundation, established in 1907 in Vancouver, is dedicated to supporting its community through investments in social purpose real estate, grants, and programs. We aim to create a resilient, caring, and inclusive community where everyone can overcome injustice, participate, and thrive. Our low-income housing is managed by our affiliated organization, the Central City Housing Society.

Opportunity

We operate two SRO buildings in the downtown eastside (Abbott Mansion & Cosmopolitan Hotel) with a total capacity of 112 units. Positions are available for day, evening, and overnight shifts.

Primary Purpose

The Front Desk Worker ensures the safety and security of the premises and residents. Responsibilities include monitoring the front office, building security, maintaining logbooks, supporting residents' well-being, tracking guests, and fostering a safe, welcoming environment. The role requires responsiveness and readiness to meet challenges.

Responsibilities
  1. Control building access, greet residents & visitors
  2. Interact with residents, respond to inquiries, and perform security duties such as monitoring the front door
  3. Enforce community rules
  4. Log relevant entries in the logbook
  5. Respond to emergencies per building policies
  6. Help maintain building cleanliness
  7. Attend staff meetings and training sessions
  8. Perform duties assigned by the Building Manager
  9. Ensure service delivery aligns with Central City Foundation’s mission
Requirements

Ideal candidates will have a deep understanding of the DTES community, anti-oppression work, intersectionality, and colonialism's legacy. A commitment to working with individuals facing substance use and mental health challenges is essential, gained through lived experience or relevant education.

Qualifications
  1. Grade 12 or higher
  2. Current First Aid certification and overdose response experience
  3. Training in de-escalation/conflict resolution
  4. Ability to pass a Criminal Record check

Preference will be given to Indigenous applicants and individuals from other equity-seeking groups to promote diversity and inclusion.

Additional Details

Positions are full-time or part-time, covering day, evening, and overnight shifts. Compensation is $21.00/hour plus benefits, with additional pay for evening (+$0.75) and overnight (+$1.25) shifts.
