Job summary

Cermaq British Columbia is currently looking to fill the full-time, permanent role of aFreshwater Hatchery Technician 3 to our team at Oceans Hatchery (located near Duncan).

As an entry-level Hatchery Technician, you would be responsible for checking the operation of different systems as part of an established routine, such as oxygen level monitoring, checklists for different buildings and equipment, supporting other staff when loading fish and various other site-related activities.

Application Requirements:
  • Understanding and adherence to hatchery biosecurity, procedures and protocols
  • Able to learn and apply technical procedures
  • Knowledge and experience with salmon hatchery operations would be an asset
  • Proactive attitude to foresee and solve problems and ability to work as a team member
  • This full-time position operates on 5 days on 2 days off schedule (not camp-based) working 40 hours per week. Possible overtime may be required depending on business needs
  • The shift schedule is dependent on the hatchery needs and will include at least one weekend day, shifts are Sunday to Thursday, or Tuesday to Saturday.
  • The position may be required to work morning, afternoon, night shifts or on-call shifts
  • Timely and reliable transportation will be required to travel to the hatchery to respond to alarm calls as needed
  • Eligible for benefits upon hire including extended health, dental, and vision care, AD&D insurance; life and dependent insurance, and long-term disability insurance. RRSP matching available after 3-month probation completed.
  • Vacation pay is accrued at a rate of 6% (3 weeks) per year
Special Requirements:
  • Prerequisites to hiring are a fitness assessment, reference checks, and a criminal record check
