Job summary

Kelly Cove Salmon Ltd., a division of Cooke Aquaculture Inc., is seeking a Freshwater Aquaculture Technician for our hatcheries in Eastern Charlotte County, NB. You will monitor feed and oxygen, perform water quality tests, collect data and support daily farm routines.

The ideal candidate will have aquaculture training or relevant hands-on experience, be computer literate, and willing to work varied shifts including weekends.

Qualifications

• Must have aquaculture training or equivalent hands-on experience in spawning, egg incubation and rearing salmon fry.
• Experience with water quality testing is an asset.
• Criminal background check required per policy.

Responsibilities

• Monitor feed and oxygen levels and maintain water quality.
• Complete water quality tests and collect data daily.
• Perform daily farm routines and keep records of water chemistry.
• Assist in brood stock production and spawning activities.
• Operate, clean, and maintain pumps, filters, tanks and equipment.
• Grade and weigh aquaculture stocks; handle chemicals with PPE.

Kelly Cove Salmon Ltd., a division of Cooke Aquaculture Inc., a dynamic and growing east coast family company, with Platinum Member status in the Canada’s Best Managed Companies Program, is offering a unique opportunity for highly motivated individuals to join the Company’s team as a Freshwater AquacultureTechnician for our hatcheries in Eastern Charlotte County, NB.

The Role

Primary duties include:

• Monitoring feed and oxygen
• Completing water quality tests
• Data collection and input
• Daily farm routines
• Clean and maintain equipment
• Assist other aquaculture technicians in the operation of fish hatcheries.
• Brood stock production and handling spawning, egg and fry production.
• Feed aquaculture stocks, vaccinate stocks, and perform culling.
• Operate, maintain, and clean pumps, filters, tanks and other aquaculture equipment.
• Keep daily records of water chemistry and oxygen
• Grade and weigh aquaculture stocks.
• Handles chemicals with necessary PPE. Includes mandatory FIT testing (respirators).

The ideal candidate must be:

• Attention to details
• Ability to lift and carry brood fish
• Computer literate
• Ability to answer alarms
• Willing to work varied or irregular shift including weekends.

The ideal candidate will have completed aquaculture training from a recognized educational institute. This requirement may be substituted with sufficient hands‑on experience in spawning, egg incubation and early rearing of salmon fry. Previous experience with water quality testing would be considered an asset.
