Job summary

Metro is seeking a Produce Clerk for a part-time, permanent role in Ottawa. You will ensure the produce area is fresh, well-stocked, and presented, while assisting customers and maintaining quality standards.

The role requires physical stamina to lift items, stand for long periods, and work flexible shifts including days, evenings, weekends. Prior retail experience is a plus, and wages start around the union wage scale.

Qualifications

• Customer service oriented with a positive attitude.
• Ability to stock and display merchandise.
• Attention to detail for product knowledge and labeling.
• Ability to lift 30 to 50 pounds.
• Retail experience is an asset but not required.
• Ability to stand for extended periods.
• Willingness to work flexible shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Unload shipments and sort items for backroom storage.
• Stock shelves and displays; rotate stock using first-in, first-out.
• Create appealing displays and maintain visual standards.
• Inspect produce for freshness and quality; remove spoiled items.
• Monitor temps and humidity to ensure fresh storage.
• Assist customers in locating items and answer questions.
• Update signage and ensure prices are accurate in system and on shelves.
• Keep the produce area clean and sanitized; follow safety guidelines.
• Collaborate with team and assist with promotions or events.
