Job summary

Dynacare in Ottawa, ON, is hiring a French bilingual Laboratory Assistant to obtain quality blood samples and perform patient tests in a fast-paced setting. You will support a team, ensure accurate data entry for health requisitions, and help maintain high quality metrics while delivering compassionate patient care.

This on-site role runs 10 months, with day shifts from Monday to Friday, and a 10:30 am–4:00 pm schedule including half-days on some Saturdays.

Qualifications

• Secondary school completion with Laboratory Assistant training or Medical Lab Assistant course with phlebotomy.
• Customer-focused with genuine care for patient health.
• Skilled in phlebotomy and able to calm anxious patients during the sampling process.
• Ability to manage deadlines and stay organized.
• Extreme attention to detail.
• Proficiency in English, written and spoken.

Responsibilities

• Create an ideal customer experience that is best in class and engages patients with our products and services.
• Accurately enter data, patient and test information for Ministry of Health requisitions.
• Obtain quality blood samples and other specimens from patients using venipuncture techniques.
• Sort and steer specimens, perform ECGs, Holter hookups, paternity, urine, drug and breath alcohol collections.
• Ensure specimens and documentation are completed per SOPs and ready for data entry and transport to the laboratory.
• Maintain confidentiality and contribute to quality metrics and regulatory compliance.

• Obtain quality blood samples and other specimens from patients, using skillful venipuncture techniques, performed in keeping with Dynacare’s mission and values
• Sort and steer specimens, perform ECG’s, Holter Hookups, paternity, urine, drug and breath alcohol collections
• Ensure specimens and supporting documentation are completed as required in SOPs and ready for data entry and transportation to the laboratory, following established protocols for the handling of suitable and unsuitable samples
• Ensure all confidential information is maintained in a secure fashion. Contribute to meeting the departmental/corporate quality metrics, regulatory compliance and quality indicators

What YOU bring to the role:

• You have completed Secondary School and a Laboratory Assistant training program or a Medical Lab Assistance course with specialized training in phlebotomy
• You are customer-focused with a genuine care for patient’s health
• Demonstrate skill in phlebotomy, with the ability to manage anxious patients through the sample obtaining process in a pleasant, calming and reassuring manner
• Prioritize and self-manage within a deadline-oriented environment
• Be extremely detail oriented
• Proficiency in English, both written and verbal, at a level that enables you to communicate instructions, clearly and understandably, to patients

Working Conditions

• Medical laboratory environment
• May be required to lift a maximum of 30 pounds
• Repetitive movements with frequent computer use
• At times might require frequent standing, sitting, bending, etc.

Pay rate: $21.00-$24.75 per hour The hiring pay range has been established; however, the final pay offer will be determined by taking into consideration various factors including but not limited to, level of experience and education requirements.
