Job Description

The Technical Director – Scenography & Production transforms ambitious creative concepts into tangible technical realities. They play a key role in the feasibility, design, and execution of scenic environments and scenographic integrations, ensuring the rigorous and seamless implementation of artistic intentions.

Working closely with the creative leadership, fabrication workshops, and technical service providers, they coordinate fabrication, oversee production, and manage on-site installation. This role requires strong technical expertise, a sharp sense of collaboration, and great adaptability in the face of real-world challenges.

Key Responsibilities

Mastery of the Craft

  • Translate creative concepts into clear and feasible technical drawings.
  • Oversee material selection, fabrication methods, and integration systems.
  • Produce or validate drawings for fabrication, transport, and installation.
  • Monitor fabrication progress, ensuring timelines and budgets are respected.

Creative Quality

  • Work directly with art directors to uphold the original vision.
  • Balance aesthetics, functionality, and technical constraints.
  • Propose innovative solutions without compromising the concept’s integrity.

Technical Excellence

  • Integrate sound, lighting, and video systems into scenic elements.
  • Supervise tests, prototyping, and necessary adjustments before installation.
  • Actively participate in technical meetings with all trades.
  • Be present on-site during installations to ensure compliance and final quality.

Communication

  • Maintain constant communication with design, production, and fabrication teams.
  • Clearly explain technical constraints and justify execution choices.
  • Document the design and fabrication process.

Learn, Share, Evolve

  • Share technical insights and lessons learned with the team.
  • Contribute to structuring and evolving internal standards.
  • Help foster a culture of technical rigor, applied creativity, and cross-disciplinary collaboration.
Qualifications
  • Degree in architecture, scenic design, technical design, or engineering.
  • Significant experience in set fabrication or technical integration in a creative environment (e.g., live events, retail, museums, exhibitions).
  • Proficiency in software: AutoCAD, Vectorworks, Rhino, SketchUp.
  • Solid knowledge of technical systems: lighting, audio, video.
  • Ability to produce and interpret complex technical drawings.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, autonomy, and initiative.
  • Comfortable working in multidisciplinary teams and dynamic field environments.
