Your Role:

We are looking for an experienced Part-Time Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to lead the creation and registration of a new CIRO Dealer Member as a registered introducing/carrying investment dealer. This role is critical for our application process with regulatory authorities and will involve establishing the financial framework for success. Upon approval, the position may transition to full-time. The CFO will collaborate with the President/CEO to build the team, policies, and procedures, ensuring compliance with financial regulatory requirements, monitoring capital adequacy, preparing financial reports, and overseeing audits and filings. The role involves working closely with the parent company’s CFO and Comptroller for alignment across entities.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Broker-Dealer Application: Lead financial efforts for the CIRO Investment Dealer application, ensuring all requirements are met.
2. Daily Responsibilities: Safeguard assets and reputation through risk mitigation, capital monitoring, bank account reconciliation, and fund management.
3. Financial Regulatory Management: Ensure timely and accurate filing of financial information and compliance with disclosure requirements.
4. Regulatory Engagement: Manage communications with CIRO, OSC, and other regulators, handling notifications and interactions.
5. Policy Development: Create and maintain policies and procedures, documenting all regulatory requirements and updates.
6. Training Deployment: Oversee training programs to ensure staff are informed of regulatory obligations.
7. Reporting and Escalation: Provide updates to senior management and escalate issues as needed.
8. Team Building: Collaborate with the President/CEO to recruit and develop a high-performing team.
9. Strategic Leadership: Manage relationships with stakeholders to ensure a cohesive financial approach.
10. Projects: Support integration of new initiatives and regulatory obligations as directed by leadership.

Job Requirements:

1. Minimum 5+ years of senior financial leadership experience.
2. Completion of the CSI CFO Qualifying Examination.
3. Bachelor’s degree in finance, business, law, or related field (preferred).
4. Strong understanding of Financial Accounting and CRA Tax Requirements.
5. Experience with CIRO and/or Ontario Securities Commission, including Risk Adjusted Capital calculations and Early Warning Capital Rules.
6. Technical knowledge of trade life cycle, settlement monitoring, and broker platform implementation.
7. Ability to manage banking operations and assess factors impacting regulatory capital.
8. Proven experience in developing internal controls, managing audits, and exams independently.
9. Experience working with remote, global teams.
10. Excellent communication skills for stakeholder engagement.
11. Strategic thinking, analytical skills, and decision-making abilities for complex regulatory environments.
12. High ethical standards and confidentiality.

1. 5-10 years of experience in CIRO-related operations, financial reporting, or clearing.
