Job summary

Peter Ballantyne Child & Family Services Inc. is seeking a Foster Care Worker for its Pelican Narrows, SK office. The role focuses on providing services to children in care, investigating abuse and neglect, and placing children in need of protection.

Qualified candidates will hold a BSW/BISW or equivalent, possess strong communication skills, and commit to protecting children. A valid driver’s license and willingness to travel for training and duties are required.

Qualifications

• BSW or BISW, Social Work Degree or equivalent training in Child & Family Services or related field.
• Mature, Stable and leads a healthy lifestyle

• Willingness to participate in training and travel when required.
• Excellent written, oral communication and public speaking skills.
• Knowledge of the Cree culture, language, political and social objectives of Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation.
• Persons of First Nation’s Ancestry are encouraged to apply.
• Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle.
• Employment will be determined based on a satisfactory criminal record check and vulnerable sector check*.

Responsibilities

• Providing services to children in care.
• Investigating reports of abuse, neglect and abandonment.
• Place children in need of protection.
• Monitor placements on a regular basis.
• Providing a range of family support service.
• Developing preventions and educational services.
• Providing on-going counseling and support services to children and families.
• Recruiting and training prospective foster parents.
• Conducting in depth home studies.
• Making recommendations regarding the approval and use of new foster home parents and assisting them in meeting the obligations to family services and the children/families that are placed in their care.
• Conducting annual and periodic review of foster homes to evaluate their fostering services.
• Ensure their family health, psychological, training and professional needs are met.
• Assisting in coordinating emergency and ongoing foster placements within the service centre area
• Recruiting and licensing foster homes and maintain an adequate pool of foster care resources within the community.
