Steele’s Transportation Group (Steele’s) specializes in providing scheduled LTL Freight in Alberta and local pickup and delivery from our terminal hubs located in Calgary and Edmonton. Steele’s has a strong reputation for our service, which we have been building since 1957 when the company was founded by Eric and Kathleen Steele. Dennis Steele, who joined the family business in 1987, leads and operates Steele’s as a business partnership under FMi Logistics Group Inc.
Steele’s is an asset-based business which utilizes a fleet of dedicated equipment, which includes company-owned assets and owner-operator-owned equipment working as subcontractors along with carrier partners to provide safe, timely and competitive freight delivery services throughout Alberta. Our main area of service occurs in the busy corridor between Calgary, Red Deer, and Edmonton, and we do have staff and/or drivers based in each of these major cities.
Job Title: Forklift Operator (Material Handling)
Job Summary:
The Forklift Operator (MH) is responsible for loading and unloading trucks and trailers safely and efficiently. You will work closely with the shipping and receiving coordinator and operations supervisor or terminal/operations manager, along with our drivers, outside carriers and other operational staff as required.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for operating forklifts and other material handling equipment to efficiently move products and materials throughout the Terminal. This role requires attention to detail, adherence to safety protocols, and the ability to perform heavy lifting as needed.
Job Responsibilities:
1.Material Handling
·Work in accordance with all terminal procedures and policies
·Safe operation of all equipment
·Completing daily inspection of equipment and working area, and documenting the inspection activity.
·Responsible for unloading and loading freight from trailers and the loading dock
·Documentation of all products, trailers and companies being loaded or unloaded.
·Inspecting all freight for proper packing, signs of damage or concealed damage.
·Inspecting each item loaded or unloaded for clear and accurate labelling to avoid risks of errors in furtherance
·Correcting mislabeled products immediately when found.
·Assisting in loading and load securement by hand or with provided equipment
·Other duties as assigned by the direct Supervisor / Manager.
2.Housekeeping
·Sweeping floors in company-owned trailers before loading or when finished unloading
·Keeping the loading dock and warehouse clean and picking up garbage as you work
·Sweeping the dock floors to keep them clean and free of clutter
·Putting all tools, equipment, and documents away where they belong after use and at the end of the shift.
3.Communications And Documenting Work Completed
·Complete a daily activity log and turn it into the supervisor at the end of each shift
·Informing the shipper, receiving coordinator, and supervisor when specific tasks are completed
·Reporting all incidents or near misses to the supervisor.
·Completing incident reports for any damage, claims or near-miss incidents, including accidents causing injury or property damage
4.Other duties
- Some heavy lifting may be required.
- May be required to complete load transfers by hand.
- Forklift work, as required, to help with the dock's daily workflow.
- Any other ad hoc relevant job duties as required/assigned from time to time.
5.Qualifications/Skills
Ø2+ years of safe forklift operation
ØExcellent Customer Service skills
ØTrained in the Transportation of Dangerous Goods
ØAbility to multitask and prioritize workload.
ØAbility to stand or sit for extended periods, walk, bend, case picking and lifting up to 50 lbs.
ØSelf-motivating
ØTask & Safety oriented
ØAble to work in hot or cold temps and a moderately dusty environment at times.
Ø Proficient use of English, both written and spoken, additional languages considered an asset.
6.Certifications
Ø Forklift certified,current Forklift Operator’s license
Ø TDG Certification
Ø WHMIS certified
Ø Valid driver’s license
