Job summary

NFI is seeking a Seasonal Forklift Operator I to move, stack and count merchandise in our Toronto-area warehouse. You will operate forklifts and related equipment, perform pre-operation checks, and ensure safety and accuracy in inventory handling.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • 6 months forklift operation experience preferred.
  • Must qualify and pass NFI forklift certification.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Effective customer service skills and basic math competencies.

Overview

The Seasonal Forklift Operator I is responsible for operating material handling equipment to move, locate, relocate, stack, and count merchandise within the warehouse. The operator ensures the safe and efficient use of forklifts and may also perform order filler or order checker duties as needed, while maintaining productivity, accuracy, and adherence to safety procedures.

Shifts: Mon‑Fri 2:00 pm‑10:30 pm and Mon‑Fri 10:00 pm‑6:30 am. Shift premium: $1.25 / hr. Though the position is initially seasonal, potential exists for full‑time roles.

Responsibilities
  • Operate all material handling equipment safely and efficiently, following established work practices and safety procedures.
  • Possess basic understanding of equipment safety and adhere to all safety protocols.
  • Complete and document required pre‑operation inspection forms for equipment.
  • Stack and store merchandise in designated areas using forklift, clamp, or push‑pull equipment.
  • Unload inbound shipments safely and move product to storage locations.
  • Pull and prepare products for shipment in accordance with customer and operational requirements.
  • Verify that the correct quantity and product type are loaded and shipped.
  • Perform order picking accurately, timely, and in a customer‑service‑focused manner.
  • Move product from staging or storage areas into trailers for outbound loads.
  • Maintain required documentation and reports to support inventory accuracy and product security.
  • Assist with physical inventory counts and periodic cycle counts as directed.
  • Ensure inventory is rotated in accordance with company standards.
  • Identify and report inventory discrepancies to the inventory control team and participate in resolution.

  • Report safety concerns, hazards, or incidents to management promptly.
  • Demonstrate basic Excel skills and general computer proficiency to complete required tasks.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as required by the role and determined by management.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, up to 10–12 hours per shift.
  • Ability to lift and/or pull a minimum of 10 lbs up to 50 lbs, without restrictions required by business needs.
  • Frequent bending, lifting, stretching, and reaching above and at shoulder level.
  • Ability to work in environments with varying noise levels, lighting conditions, and temperature changes.
  • Willingness to work irregular or extended hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as required by business needs.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Preferred 6 months of forklift operation experience and/or experience using warehouse distribution equipment.
  • Must qualify and pass NFI forklift certification.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Effective customer service skills and basic math competencies.
Compensation

The base hourly pay rate for this posting is $21.50. The base hourly pay range is a guideline to provide employees with market‑competitive pay, while allowing for flexibility to recognize and reward various levels of expertise, performance, and tenure.
