Job summary

Conifex is seeking Forestry Summer Students to gain hands-on field experience with the Woodlands team, spanning harvesting, planning, and silviculture. You will work both in the field on cutblocks and in offices performing data entry, permit prep, and GIS tasks.

This role offers mentorship from experienced foresters, exposure to multiple forestry functions, and a path to future crew leads or full-time opportunities after graduation.

Qualifications

• Education: Currently enrolled in a Forestry Degree Program, Forestry Technical Diploma, or Natural Resource Management program at an accredited post secondary institution.
• Experience: Prior forestry, agricultural, or outdoor work experience is an asset, but not required.
• Availability: Available to work through the summer season, generally May through August, with some flexibility depending on your school schedule.
• Licenses: A valid Class 5 Driver's License.
• Physical work: Comfortable working outdoors in variable weather and terrain, and able to do physical field work.
• Attitude: Strong work ethic and a genuine interest in forestry.

Responsibilities

• Assist with cutblock and road layout, reconnaissance, and field data collection.
• Support planting supervision, regeneration and free growing surveys, and other silviculture field work.
• Take part in harvest and road inspections, contractor compliance checks, and environmental monitoring.
• Help with permit prep, GIS mapping, and other planning tasks in the office.
• Follow all safety procedures and take part in daily safety meetings and training.
• Other duties as assigned, depending on the needs of the season and your interests.

If you are a forestry student looking to get real field experience, we want you to join our Fibre Team for the summer 2027. You will spend the season working alongside our Harvesting, Planning, and Silviculture teams, picking up hands on experience across the full forestry program.

Duties

As a Forestry Summer Student, you will support our Woodlands team through a mix of field work and office tasks, gaining exposure to harvesting, planning, and silviculture operations depending on where the work is needed most that summer.

You could find yourself out on cutblocks helping with layout and reconnaissance, checking in on planting and regeneration surveys, or assisting with road and harvest inspections. Back in the office, you will help with data entry, permit prep, and other tasks that keep our programs running smoothly.

This is a great opportunity for students who want to see what a career in forestry actually looks like before they graduate. Many of our summer students come back in following years as crew leads, or join us full time once they finish school.

We are looking for Forestry Summer Students, with a monthly salary in the range of $4,000 to $5,600, depending on experience and program year. The top end of this range applies to returning students stepping into a crew lead role.
