Job summary

Líĺwat Forestry Venture, a field crew within Líĺwat Forestry Ventures LP, seeks a Summer Student to assist with daily forestry and silviculture tasks. You will work alongside experienced team members to perform duties safely and efficiently in the field, supporting project goals in a dynamic environment.

Reporting to the Forestry Crew Lead or Intermediate Forestry Technician, you will help with logging, tree planting, and fire-related duties while adhering to safety standards and regulations.

Qualifications

• Pursuing Forestry degree or related diploma or accreditation.
• Driver's license preferred but not required.
• Experience in firefighting or fuels management is an asset.
• Silviculture experience is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Perform daily forestry and silviculture tasks (chainsaws, tree planting, brush saws).
• Log and manage fuel and firefighting equipment as required.
• Participate in safety meetings and follow BC Forest Safety Council Safe Certification requirements.
• Work in teams of up to 5 under supervision to complete project tasks.
• Maintain equipment and assist with crew vehicles and safety protocols.

Wage: $23.00 to $26.00 per hour

Summary of Duties:

The Summer Student is a member of Líĺwat Forestry Venture fieldcrews that performs various forestry and silviculture-related tasks. Thisposition works alongside experienced forestry team members to perform theirdaily tasks safely and efficiently, contributing to the overall success ofLíĺwat Forestry Ventures LP.

Key Deliverables and Expectations:

• Works in teams up to 5 to complete projectassignments provided by the Forestry Crew Lead.
• Communicates effectively with the Forestry CrewLead for project updates.
• Understands and complies with the BC ForestSafety Council “SAFE Certification” program.
• Conforms to Occupational Health and Safety Lawsand WCB Regulations.
• Participates in maintaining Health and Safetystandards by adhering to work practices in the field and by supportingemergency health and safety measures.
• Properly uses and logs the use of PPE, ERP andFirst Aid Equipment.
• Attends and participates in daily safetymeetings, understanding identified risks and hazards for each day on eachspecific project.
• Works with equipment, required gear and fuel foreach project.
• Perform daily forestry and silviculture taskslike running chainsaws, tree planting, running brush saws, and silviculturesurveys.
• Responsible for fuel management, cutting andpruning trees, clearing debris, and chipping material.
• Firefighting duties such as digging fire guards,and pumping water on burning areas to fight forest fires.
• Mobilizing, demobilizing and maintainingfirefighting equipment.
• Participates in the operation and maintenance ofcrew vehicles and equipment by ensuring compliance with safety standards,training procedures and local laws.
• Perform other related duties as requested.

Experience and Attributes:

• Working towards a Forestry Degree, or ForestTechnician Diploma, or Nature Resource Accreditation.
• Class 5 driver’s license preferred, but notrequired.
• OFA Level 1 preferred, but not required.
• Firefighting training (S100, S185, IC… etc) an asset
• Experience in firefighting and fuels managementis an asset
• Silviculture experience (tree planting, brushingand surveys) an asset
• Experience in hand and power tool safetypreferred but not required.
• Ability to multi-task and adapt in a flexibleand fast-paced environment.
• Strong organizational skills
• Hardworking, positive attitude, willing to takeinitiative.
• Excellent/good interpersonal skills
• Excellent customer service skills
• Ability to work flexible hours.
• Ability to travel as required for the position.
• Physically fit, with the ability to complete the following fitness test: Youmust walk 3.2kms with a 25lb backpack, in 30 minutes or less.
• Must be 19 years of age or older.
